If you're running a business that involves writing, it is likely that you almost certainly suffer from the dreaded writer's block occasionally. When this happens to me I have found that the easiest method to get writing again is to take myself out of the usual setting and move on and work someplace else such as a cafe or the library.
However, now and again even that doesn't work and I want something further to get me writing. So, I turn it into a game.
Fourth Bookshelf Down
The Intention:
To get over writer's block and write down a complete piece of content regardless of how good or inferior I assess it to be.
The Situation:
A public library, book shop or the book shelves in your home.
The Game:
Determine how long you will write for but do not make it in excess of forty five minutes.
Go to the bookcase where lots of your favourite books are housed and choose the book that's on the fourth shelf down and 20 books from the left. Regardless of what it is, use that to inspire your writing.
You can use the name as your inspiration or open to a random page and choose a particular paragraph. If you select to use a paragraph choose which paragraph on which page, or maybe just choose a page number and use the paragraph where your gaze first falls. I like to keep it straightforward and just go with the title. But the important point is to choose what you'll use before you commence and then follow it. Do not change your mind when you get to the book. Just read and begin writing.
It does not have to make sense or even be about the topic you have just read. The object is to simply start writing and don't stop until your chosen time is up. If you do that your imaginitive juices will be flowing and you will be ready to write "for real".
I've composed many informative content pieces this way but that's a bonus. The primary objective is to pass though the block and start writing.
