We are a consumer people, regardless if it sounds disgusting to a few individuals. It simply runs in the genes, so whilst you witness a horde of individuals dashing to the superstore to obtain some novel product (simply have a look at any "cool device" that is being marketed on the TV), don't you sense that it appears not much unlike from locusts, flying to a grassland?
A number of individuals, certainly, look at the global consumerism from the other standpoint. It is inevitable and it is a piece of the human personality, so why strive hard varying it on a global scale? Would not it be way better to start from changing these things yourself initially, giving an example to other consumers? Anyhow, if it is not a requirement of life, I would personally consider the aesthetic edge of anything I would consider buying. This goes without saying if we talk about jewelry, for instance.
Lately my mother and father and I have been thinking over some jewelry gift for my younger sister on her 21st birthday. In time, we shortlisted the kinds of jewelry we considered at all to a ring or a bracelet. Within a few days we figured out that the bracelet appears not to be in my sister's preferred objective of desire…(that we accidentally learnt from her reaction to a bracelet on some famous person on the TV). Additionally, we in fact considered the ring more from the start, because we all wanted it to include a valuable diamond, and with this in mind, a ring appeared to be the finest decision.
Our web search end up with the stunning black titanium ring (very fashionable metal used in modern jewelry) with the 1.25 ct. vivid-yellow lab grown diamond. Now, knowing a little about the metal (I've dealt with the black titanium wedding bands some time ago) my attention was drawn to the information that the diamond was lab grown. Does it mean it was not a true diamond? The web page stressed that it was true one, but how come it cost 20% less than "non-lab grown" ones (oh, yes, we've done quite a study on the prices :)
My Dad browsed the Net, and a bunch of remarkable facts were presented to me over the phone. Yes, lab frown diamonds are true diamonds and they have all qualities of the ordinary diamonds that are mined. And being a lab grown diamond, it has an extra importance - it is what is called a "blood free" diamond. As you may perhaps have heard, the majority of the natural expensive diamonds are mined in Africa, in the countries that were (and some still are) involved in regular ethnic wars, that are typically sponsored with the money made from the diamonds sales, that originated in those countries. Also, there are grim legacies of the wars in that area - the mine fields. It's a disgrace, but these fields are left "as is" even after the armed conflict is finished, and it is civil inhabitants that are damaged the most. That is why such diamonds are considered immoral ones and are usually known as blood diamonds or conflict diamonds.
On the other hand, lab grown diamonds are completely conflict-free, that encourages individuals to, at least in this fashion, struggle with injustice happening in Africa. Some ethical diamond stores even use a percentage of the money to help out people in Africa - by means of the aid of intercontinental organizations, the money is used to clear mine fields. Igloo diamonds does it in Angola, for example.
So, having learnt that information, we were persuaded to go for that wonderful black titanium tension setting ring with the lab grown, blood free diamond. Having ordered a custom ring from one of just 2 (as it appeared!) design houses that are manufacturing real black titanium rings, we were eagerly awaiting the happy occasion, hoping that our present for such an significant day would be just right. And we were not mistaking - not just the entire birthday festivity went splendidly, but my little sis (well, she will always be my little sis :) was genuinely impressed with the ring and its story, she even used the issue of the blood-free diamonds for one of her college essays later on. But - that's a totally different story…
