Making the decision to take on a bird as a pet is a big one. There are many responsibilities that come with being a bird owner and it is imperative to make certain you can live up to the expectations that it will have. At the same time, owning a bird can bring lots of joy and fun.
Myself, I am the proud owner of an African Grey parrot. I have always been an animal lover and when I moved to a bigger house, one of the first things I did was to look for a family pet. The world wide web gave me many advice and information. I was able to learn how to train a bird, signs to recognize to discover out if they are happy, sick or sad. I also found out how to teach them to speak and what a bird will expect from me as its owner. The internet also revealed to me that there was no pet shop in my town selling birds and I could not discover a breeder in my town either.
Once again I researched the internet and one of the first web sites I came across was Buy Sell Birds. It is a website where owners can place private ads for free and I found plenty of birds for sale. Budgies, cockatoos, canaries and of course, many African Greys.
I browsed through lots of of the adverts however one of them stood out. It was about an African Grey parrot that was described as being funny, cute and excellent with children. The seller was displaying their telephone number and within minutes I was chatting with them. I received more pictures of the bird via email, and finally made a decision a couple of days later. This bird was going to be the newest member of our family. The seller lived at the opposite side of the UK to me; however the site Buy Sell Birds recommended an excellent courier who transported my new bird to me, safe and sound.
Today my African Grey sits on his perch and joins in the fun with the family. The vocabulary of my African Grey is enormous and any first time visitors to the house, love to sit there listening to him.
