It's a new year, a new month, a new day... and it's time to begin the Declutter Challenge! Wouldn't you love to be able to come home to a clutter-free, neat, peaceful home? Think about how nice it would be cooking in a kitchen where all your utensils are where they are supposed to be, and where your countertops sparkle and beg to be filled with home made cookies rather than clutter? Give yourself a Declutter Challenge today! Uncertain of what is meant by Declutter Challenge? Simply put, it is a challenge you give yourself (and/or your friends and family) to get a massive part of your house clutter-free in a specific time frame. And it WORKS!
The One Week Declutter Challenge
Another category of challenge will require you to set aside one complete week to your project. This will be a genuine "no distractions allowed" week during which you empty your schedule with the goal of reclaiming what once wsa your decluttered house. Assign yourself one area of the house for every day, close yourself inside it so to speak, and go to town! Garbage bins, bins for donations and for consignment shops, and obviously some basic cleaning supplies are your must-haves. Pull your spouse, your friends, or your children along for the ride! The more the merrier!
Perhaps you'll see the need to cut back and give yourself a One Week Bedroom Declutter Challenge, or a One Week Garage Declutter Challenge. Don't worry about it! Commit yourself to decluttering for seven days (and really, what is seven days on the whole), and you'll definitely bring order back to a big part of your cluttered home!
The 2010 in 2010 Declutter Challenge
This category of Declutter Challenge is a popular one. Commit yourself to decluttering (by throwing out, donating, or selling) 2010 items throughout the year 2010. That sounds like a lot of "stuff" doesn't it? If you do the math though, it's not too crazy at all. 2010 divided into 365 days is merely 5.5 things per day. Look around you... your junk drawer, the cupboard in the basement, your office, the storage shed... that doesn' t seem unreasonable, does it? Record your success on a calendar, and see the clutter melt away!
One more way you can do the 2010 Declutter Challenge is to commit 2010 minutes specifically to decluttering! That's 33.5 hours.... A lot until you remember that there are 8,760 hours in one year! It's not even one 45 minute session per week! However, 2010 minutes is sufficient to get a LOT clutter-free!
The 30 Day Declutter Challenge
The final type of challenge is known as the 30 Day Declutter Challenge, and the idea is that on all of the 30 days of the month you declutter one thing or section of your house, great or small. The things can range from the top shelf in your pantry closet to your son's old sports equipment in your work shop, from your junk drawer to the kraft supply kit that gets hidden in the office closet. The key is to be realistic with your chore assignment. Putting "put photos accumulated from the last 4 years into photo-albums" in all probability won't be able to be done in a single day, but perhaps "separate the pictures into envelopes or piles according to the occasion or person and throw out of photographs you won't want to keep" CAN be done!
When your tasks have been assigned, consider giving yourself a reward to look forward to once your 30 Day Challenge ends successfully! Yes, it will be rewarding enough to see your clutter-free house, you can not deny that we put in more energy if we have something tangible to win from our hard work!
So, the "One Week Declutter Challenge", and the "2010 in 2010 Declutter Challenge", and the the "30 Day Declutter Challenge"... three great ways to start decluttering your house! Which one are you going to do?
