Somewhere in the seventeenth century, the Croatian mercenaries first started wearing a bow tie. This was amidst the Prussian wars. The bow ties were actually worn more as a scarf around the neck, to make certain that their shirts stayed intact. Later in time, the more sophisticated French people adorned bow ties and instead called them Cravat. It is uncertain if it was the cravat which turned into a bow tie, or simply created the first impression. Bow ties are tied with history and have been an integral part of western culture and it society. Bow ties were mostly associated with the elite part of society which was later transformed into more modern attire, which eventually became known as bow tie.

Traditionally bow ties were made to a standard size and length, which even in modern times have remained the same. The width of a bow tie range between 14 and 20 inches. For most formal wear, it is better suited to wear a bow tie with a formal shirt. For a shirt less formal, an adjustable tie is more interesting.
Variety Of Bow Ties

A ready-tie is known to be a very simple tie, which has a clip that is fixed to the collar. There are also two other popular ties, one is known as the bat wing, which looks similar to a cricket bat, and the other is known as the butterfly. These ties are both double ended. You might find a bow tie with a single end, occasionally, which is flared at one end, and thin at the other.

The lawyers, professors, physicians and architects are folks who normally wear bow ties often. But nowadays, bow ties are worn by a mixed lot of people in various walks of life. It was originally the more conservative men who wore bow ties, but according to recent surveys even the fastidious and intelligent men are adorning bow ties at most occasions.
The Trend Of Fraternity Ties
Fraternity ties are sported to lay emphasis on your associations at college, clubs and schools and so on. Fraternity ties project a strong sense of fashion. Fraternity ties were originally worn on fashion runways and by fancy men who preferred to display their decorative nature. But, it has integrated with the mainstream fashion industry and there no longer exists a stigma, that only socially conservative men adorn bow ties of any kind. Time has taken control of this concept and changed it. Now fraternity ties are not worn to display a boring sense of formality, rather it is worn to create an exciting trend in fashion.
Wholesale Bow Ties

Wholesale bow ties are usually kept in large stocks by wholesale dealers. Wholesale suppliers in the bow ties industry buy these stocks and then sell them to owners of bow ties stores. Before committing to buy bow ties in wholesale, make a list of your preferences first. This way you the seller can have an idea of what exactly you are looking for. Wholesale bow ties can be purchased at online stores or from local suppliers. A few wholesale suppliers live out of your demographic, that this will simply mean that you will have to spend unnecessarily large shipping fees. If you are an owner of a bow tie store, usually discounts are given by wholesale dealers. Do your own homework, and browse through online stores checking and comparing costs. Take a look at the quality and the material used. If these dealers live close by, you can even visit one of their factories.
