With a population of just over 7000 Formentera is the perfect island for those looking for a break with peace and tranquility. It is quite simply heaven right here on earth.
Formentera is a very small island, dwarfed by its close neighbor Ibiza, it is quiet and un-spoilt by tourism, though growing in popularity each year. It couldn't be further away in atmosphere than Ibiza. You could easily imagine you were in the Caribbean.
Formentera is mostly flat and small in size and its never far between towns and beaches. The best way to get around the island is by moped. There's no better way to travel down it's dusty lanes. The best way to get there is by chartering a boat and then you arrive at Formenteras best bits - it's white sandy beaches that stretch for miles.
Formentera is very popular with the glitterati and the 'wet set'so make sure you bring your camera. They prefer to eat at the beach restaurants where Lobster can be as expensive as 150 a plate. I heard rumor that a lot of the sea food is imported from Scotland!
If you ever go to Ibiza then you must make the effort and take a trip to this beautiful island. It may be the smallest and most southerly island of the Balearic Islands group. but it is by far the finest. I'd stay clear of the Island in August as it get too busy. The ideal time is between May and Oct.
Finally I would recommend that you go and see the island by boat. They are cheaper than you think and there are many options to choose from. Just ask one of the search engines.
