Memory foam pillows can often acquire stains or smells. The foam tends to be very absorbent and therefore can oftentimes become slightly dirty. Most people are afraid to wash memory foam as they assume that killed damage it. But there is a way that you can remove stains without causing any problems.

The cleaning process mentioned below should remove most stains from your pillow. Try to follow the steps exactly is laid out for best effect.

Here are some methods for removing stains:

1. Using plain, clean water dampen the stained spot on your pillow. Take 20 Mule Team Borax (which you can find normally at your grocery store in the laundry isle) and sprinkle it on the dampened stain. Take a soft sponge or soft cloth and blot the stain. Blot the stain and a circular motion for several minutes until you see the stain disappear. Continue blotting until the spot is dry and then take the handheld vacuum cleaner or an upright vacuum cleaner (make sure you re using the attachment with a soft brush) to remove any and all residue.

2. Using a soft sponge or a soft cloth, dampen it with hydrogen peroxide. With the hydrogen peroxide dampened sponge or cloth applied to the stain and blot it in a circular motion. What you need to know with using this method is that sometimes the hydrogen peroxide will change the color of the foam. It will eliminate the stain but at the same time it will discolor the foam. Keep this in mind when using this method.

3. Visit your pet store and find a pet stain remover that is enzymatic (most pet stores carry Petzyme which works well with this method). Using the pet stain remover lightly coat the stain with a few sprays. Let the pet stain remover dry for approximately 20 minutes. Once it has tried take a damp cloth or a damp sponge and blot the area. Allow this to dry. Normally this doesn t take as long (usually around 10 minutes). Take a hand held vacuum or an upright vacuum (with a soft brush attachment) and vacuum the area dry.

These are some of the most popular methods for removing a stain from a memory foam pillow. If the stain is particularly bad and the methods above had no effect, you may want to consult a professional mattress cleaner. You can find most professional mattress cleaners in the yellow pages or online. To locate a professional mattress cleaner go to the mattress section of the yellow pages or go to your favorite search engine and type in professional mattress cleaner. You should come up with a list of several to choose from. Make sure that any mattress cleaner you go with offers a warranty and a guarantee for their work. You don t want them to return your pillow damaged.

Also if the above methods failed and you don t feel like spending money in a professional cleaner you may want to contact the manufacturer is they may have specific products that they sell that deal specifically with removing stains from memory foam.
