Why is this such an issue?
There's a huge amount of confusion and misinformation out there regarding Guaranteed rankings, due in part to the three main players in the trade, people who do, those who don't, and those that faux they can.
The most important misunderstanding is that the corporations who do not guarantee results believe that as no SEO firm owns a pursuit engine, they cannot possibly achieve the required results, therefore the guarantee is worthless, unless a firm uses unethical techniques and also the corporations who DO guarantee results believe that the firms who do not are simply greedy, lazy and haven't any confidence in their own abilities.
So who are the most players?
The SEO companies who WILL guarantee their work The SEO corporations who WON'T guarantee their work, and The SEO corporations who WILL guarantee their work however use unethical or deceptive strategies, both in their approach to SEO and in their shopper acquisition strategy Let's touch on the last one first.
The companies who can guarantee their work but use unethical methods.
Sadly, there ARE several SEO companies who use a client acquisition strategy that's entirely deceptive. They can make sweeping claims regarding their skills, supply wild guarantees on their work, and use unethical SEO techniques to 'trick' search engines into listing websites higher than they have a right to be. Make no mistake, any SEO firm who uses such unethical techniques WILL do additional hurt than good. They will effectively have your website banned from Google and other search engines altogether. Sadly, they'll actually achieve the required rankings for a little while, in that case they can wish payment from the consumer at this stage. No matter to them if the website gets banned at a later stage; they got the (temporary) results, they got paid, and they are out the door to hit their next target. There is no doubt in ANY corporations mind that 'Black Hat SEO' (unethical, cheating ways of SEO) are bad. Thus how do you see the firms offering Black Hat SEO? Ask them what they intend on doing. If they can not provide you firm, definitive answers, move on. It also pays to contact their clients and ask them. My recommendation is to raise them for the small print of a client that they need performed SEO for as far back as a pair of years, who is still a client. That can be a dead giveaway.
What about SEO corporations who do not guarantee results at all?
My opinion is that SEO work is largely considered as money-for-jam if SEO corporations are allowed to take cash from shoppers while not having to demonstrate any level of success. It's another deceptive consumer acquisition strategy. They will sprout on regarding 'unethical SEO firms giving guarantees' but at the tip of the day, it is as a result of THEY don't admit in their own abilities. If an SEO firm is not ready to put their money where their mouth is, then maybe they must find a neater, less demanding line of work. There are a number of 'bodies' that exist to supply an area for SEO firms to assemble and spruike their wares, but even these bodies have a vested interest in maintaining the established order of no guarantees. Let's be clear, ethical SEO firms who DO provide a guarantee are a clear and significant threat to non-guaranteeing SEO corporations' approach of life. They threaten the terribly foundation of simple money for SEO firms.
What concerning the moral companies that DO provide Guaranteed SEO?
There are only a few of these corporations at this stage, but as customers become more demanding (ie.. when customers simply want to induce what they get hold of!), I think this variety will grow considerably. Provided some criteria are met, then dealing with Guaranteed SEO corporations ought to not be an issue:
" Get references. Speak to their purchasers, especially long-term ones, and ask THEM how they feel. If an SEO firm will not offer you access to their shoppers, run a mile; there will be a good reason why they won't give you references (particularly from loyal, long-term customers) Ask them WHAT they will do to improve your rankings. Because of the time-intensive nature of SEO, they must don't have any fear that a shopper will simply take their ideas and do it themselves.
" They must have no qualms telling you the specifics of what they're going to do. If a corporation mentions 'cloaking', run a mile. If they mention 'special tricks' or something that is 'secret', run a mile.
" Notice out specifically what the guarantee is for. Most SEO companies will place conditions on their guarantees that are so much too ambiguous or too extreme. Guarantee that it is as easy as this 'IF you do not rank in the top X for such and such keywords in such and such search engines, you do not pay anything the least bit'. Additionally guarantee there is a time guarantee (for example, if the rankings drop out of the guaranteed limits among maybe half-dozen months, they must refund the customer)
" Build ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the SEO firm has been in business for longer than the guarantee period. We recommend that purchasers should guarantee the corporate has been in operation for at least two-three years. Any but that and you KNOW that that company cannot turn out any references from 'long-term' clients.
At the top of the day, you wish to deal with a firm you'll trust, so if you're in doubt concerning their talents, do not hand over the money. Whatever you are doing, DO NOT hand over money to an SEO firm that will not even provide you ANY kind of guarantee on their work or failing that, comprehensive reporting. And if you DO handle a non-guarantee SEO firm, if they do not turn out significant results once three months, dump them and house a corporation who will.
