Grand Theft Auto 4 was definitely worth the wait. Rockstar has taken a more realistic approach in this version which may be a disappointment to long term fans of the series., but overall was a defiantly change for the better. There are also pretty good online elements and an extravagant well thought out story to look forward to.

The gameplay, like I said, is following the bandwagon of some other games trying to be more realistic . This means no more fire truck or taxi cab missions because a fire doesn’t break out every few minutes in real life and I don’t exactly know why they took away the cab missions. I really like those. There are still side missions like delivering packages and catching criminals along with many others so don’t think they took out everything.

The biggest change made was probably on the driving though. You can no longer go full throttle through the streets in pretty much any car because turning will be near impossible. Even going incredibly slow turns are still really hard to make. It’s not bad as it sounds though because it’s a natural feel that you should probably get used to pretty quickly unless you’re a fan of motorcycles because they are now pretty much useless in the game considering you fly off at slightest crash, and you will get a lot of crashes.

Ok, so right now, I’ll talk about Grand Theft Auto 4’s Online Feature. One of the main things that I’m not fond of with online game is how game types are decided. It just works like, if you’re lucky you become the host. That isn’t really how things should work in a rank game because people always screw up the games. Say you’re playing with 5 people and they choose all of liberty to play on instead of one of the sub maps. You will spend minutes of boring wasted time trying to find an opponent.

And no Cops N’ Crooks, one of the most talked about game types is not very fun at all. It’s just a glorified team deathmatch. It works like one team is the cops on one team and one team is the criminals obviously., but the cops are trying to kill the criminals while they try and travel to a certain checkpoint on one side of the map. This could be a very cool innovative game type considering you become a cop which has never really done. The idea was ruined though because the cops and the criminals are basically one in the same. The cops can’t do anything that you can’t do as a crook which makes the game type quite bland.

Although some of the story elements in GTA 4 are reminiscent of the previous series, the story of GTA 4 is vastly different from its predecessors. The main protagonist (or antihero as I’ll like to call him) is Niko Belic, a East European Immigrant who decided to head to Liberty City in order to see how his cousin, Roman Belic, is doing. However, Niko’s true motives for coming to Liberty City are revealed later on in the game. From hearing all of Roman’s stories about “living the American dream”, Nicko’s enthusiasm is pretty high. However, after he arrives at Liberty City and meets his cousin, he finds out the “American dream” isn’t cracked up to be. Roman lives in a terrible apartment, gets bullied at work, and has loan sharks stalking him at every turn. It doesn’t take long for Niko to get his cousin and him mixed up in the criminal underworld filled with gangs, mobsters, and crooked cops in order to make ends meat. The story is far more realistic than its predecessors since the big theme in the game is “living the American dream” which is not only satirized in the game, but drives the story throughout the game. Speaking of satirized, the series trademark “satire humor” remains intact. From hearing a crazed liberal spouting his propaganda at his opponent when you turn on the radio, to watching “Republican Space Rangers”, who’s doing the same thing, when you turn on the T.V.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is a must have game. Get it before the inevitable sequel arrives.
