With the sweltering heat of the summer behind you, it is time to get married. The cooling temperatures of autumn have helped Mother Nature provide you with a wonderful palate of color. You have the pastels of the leaves reminding you of the gentle spring coming together with the bolder, more regal colors of winter. It is always a time of celebration as we rejoice the kisses of sun that Mother Nature sent in summer. The fall wedding favors even reflect the feeling of celebration. Whether you want an outdoors wedding with the rustic feel of autumn or a more traditional wedding in a church, you will be able to find autumn wedding favors that fit your style.
It is surprising that more people don't think of fall as a great wedding season as it has so many wonderful attributes. To start, it is great wedding weather. Although fall weddings are more formal than summer weddings, it can still be warm enough to pass on the tuxedo and go with a suit for the groom and a strapless dress for the bride. Deeper into the season the bride will need sleeves and the tuxedo much more fitting. Also, because of the changing leaves you have your color palate picked by nature. It is very similar to spring but with earth tones like tan added where you had greens in the spring. For your metals you are best with bronze, brass, or gold to blend with the changing leaves.
Your decorations will really set the tone on how formal or informal you want to make things, especially at the reception. Before you wait for a list of hard and fast rules, remember that there not any. You can have a very ridged and formal ceremony at the church then shift gears to a laid back reception. Most people like keeping in the mood of the season so let your hair down a bit at the reception. You're married now, have fun! Use the decorations of the season well and you can really pull off a magical little reception.
Don't be afraid of bales of hay (just not near candles) and corn stalks. Have pumpkins and squashes (yes that is correct if it means different types of squash) and Indian corn. In fact, if there will be a number of children there and it is near Halloween give them each a small pumpkin and washable markers and let them draw faces on them. As with any reception, the more you plan ahead for children the better. The kids are fine if they have something to do and play with. This gives the poor parents that always have to be the first to leave a chance to stay longer and enjoy. If you live in the country you might even be able to get away with hay rides. Those are fun for kids and adults alike!
Again, fall is a festive season. There needs to be a certain amount of formality with the ceremony, it needs its dignity. The reception is up to you. Keeping it more formal is certainly fine but relaxing the mood a bit is a lot of fun and makes for some great candid pictures if you decided to put disposable digital cameras on the table. The rules are out the window, it's your day.
