Each day millions of people around the world are taking an omega 3 fish oil capsule. Some of them know the research, some have friends who have had success and some have been told by their doctors to get these supplements. This article will provide some basic knowledge on the subject.
There are an increasing amount of consumers that prefer not to eat a lot of seafood or are concerned with the toxins they absorb in the natural oceanic food chain. In addition, many people either can not or just do not want to take a lot of pills or tablets. Fish oil capsules from a quality company can address all these concerns.
You may think like me on this issue. If something tastes bad or is annoying to use, I tend to ignore it. Any supplement which gives me swallowing problems will probably find its way to the storeroom, never to be seen again.
Products like cod liver oil usually come in liquid form but these are not a good idea. I do not need to tell any of you who have tried it how it tastes. Perhaps, the best description is - bad. However, the best reason to leave it on the shelf is the extreme amounts of Vitamin A that it contains. The F.D.A. and other experts recommend two-to-three grams daily of omega 3s, not vitamin A - high levels like this are toxic. Stay away from this issue by using contaminant free fish oil capsules.
A marketing gimmick that is becoming more common is an enteric coating around the tablet. This is not done with fish oil capsules. Why? It is not needed. This type of coating gets certain multivitamins, amino acids or prescription drugs to the small intestine. Omega 3s are not acid sensitive and are easily absorbed in the stomach.
Why do they use it instead of fish oil capsules, you ask? Simple - to hide the taste or odor. I have seen products that actually put that on the label. What they do not tell you is this. A great many supplements use fish that are frozen in supertankers that travel great distances before delivery. Picture this scenario. Norwegian salmon is caught in the North sea and is enteric coated near the Pacific coast of California. There might be a freshness issue here.
Oh yes, before I forget, some of them are the size of small horse tablets.
It gets worse. To keep the catch from oxidizing [spoiling], various chemical additives are added before and during the processing phase. This is not needed. A little natural vitamin E or rosemary extract will do fine.
Make sure you get your fish oil capsule in soft gel form. This makes them easy to swallow for you or your children. You can also cut them in half and smell the oil. There should be a faint ocean aroma or none at all.
