? What is the importance of communication to your organization?
? What is effective communication?
Communicate to make new or higher awareness and achieve common understanding!
Whereas there are a number of completely different varieties of communication, perhaps less known is the idea of intent, an idea practiced by all military commanders.
Communicating Intent
The commander's intent could be a clear, concise statement of what the organization must do to achieve success and move from the current state to the desired finish state.
Intent is not concerning giving specific instructions or restating the task at hand. Instead, it's about emphasizing the underlying purpose of communication and focusing everybody on the broader message.
Overcoming Obstacles
Let's review this idea by exploring what Lieutenant General (LTG) William "Gus" Pagonis, director of Logistics throughout the Gulf War and widely recognized for his logistical achievements, did in 1991 when given the responsibility to deploy U.S. Forces to the Gulf for Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
Among the first thirty days of Operation Desert Shield, LTG Pagonis required to maneuver the equivalent of a city's price of folks and all of their belongings to Saudi Arabia.
In the following 60 days, he would need to repeat that very same feat a half-dozen times additional, solely a fraction of the tests that lay previous him.
In his book, Moving Mountains, he demonstrates the importance of communication and why everybody wants to perceive and support broader organizational goals.
What is Effective Workplace Communication?
LTG Pagonis wouldn't have performed so ably had he not assembled a team of competent leaders that shared his view and may relate to his leadership style.
Since everybody on his team believed and supported the underlying corporate values, LTG Pagonis had a head start.
And, because his team connected with his vision, they were ready to interpret the intent of his instructions each step of the approach, take the initiative, and exploit a number of potential opportunities that came along.
Ultimately, LTG Pagonis' team was able to achieve success over seemingly insurmountable odds as a result of of clear communication and customary understanding.
With everybody understanding the importance of communication, they were able to eliminate a variety of obstacles that typically hinder an organization's ability to figure well together.
? Is the aim and vision of your business clear to the team?
? Are your company values contributing to team building and teamwork?
? Is your mission statement on the right track?
Convey your message by clearly expressing your intent, vision, and values. Remove barriers that deter from your bottom line.
