Most people think low-cost electric guitars as bad quality, poorly made guitar. In fact, some people will be intimidated by the fact that it wasn't a US crafted electric guitar. You may not even consider Chinese or Korean crafted electric guitars and may never purchase a cheap guitar, until recently.

Many big guitar manufacturers have already began selling their guitars in India, China and Korea to offer even more affordable guitars for the ordinary player. Not everyone can afford a $2000+ Fender or Gibson electric guitar and there is a huge market for cheap electric guitars under $400.

A majority of the Epiphone inexpensive guitars models which is own by Gibson are now produced in Korea and China. Kramer, which is another company owned by Gibson produces a lot of its cheap electric guitars in Korea and China as well. Fender bought Jackson some years back, and now most of the Jackson guitars are produced in Korea and India. BC Rich inexpensive electric guitars and many Ibanez guitar models are crafted in Korea too.

The cheap of labor may also help the manufacturing of cheaper electric guitar, but that alone cannot be the only reason for lowering guitar prices.

So, why are some electric guitars dirt cheap and other electric guitars are outrageously expensive?

There are several elements determining a electric guitar value.

The first factor for making a guitar expensive or cheap is the actual guitar manufacturing procedure. Was the electric guitar hand-made or was it manufactured in a highly automated modern guitar factory? Hand-crafted instruments are always more costly, while the guitars coming out from an automated factory are always less expensive since the automated manufacturing procedure does not necessitate much manual manual labor like electric guitar building, quality control factor which will govern a guitar price. Is the quality of the material used for building this guitar of the best quality? This can comprise of the woods used for the guitar neck and body, the paints and finishes. Less expensive guitars use economical woods like plywood for building the instrument's body, while more expensive guitars use quality woods like alder, mahogany or rosewood.

The third factor for constructing a electric guitar expensive or cheap is the quality of electronics and hardware that go in the instrument. Cheap guitars typically have cheap bridge, tuners, and standard pickups. Expensive instruments are built with quality hardware and electronics. For instance the cost of a single Seymour Duncan pickup will be a much higher price than the factory electric guitar pickup built in Korea or China.

Cheap Guitars - Is it worth it to purchase one?

It actually depends. Not everyone will bond with a cheap guitar. If you are skilled player and the electric guitar is your tool of business, then you probably will not want to buy a cheap instrument. Although most cheap instruments these days have a very fine quality, professional players prefer hand-made instruments created by skilled luthiers.

If you do not want to splurge several thousands of dollars on a Gibson Les Paul, then you may want to have a look at cheaper instruments. Keep in mind that inexpensive instruments are no longer no-name instruments. You can still buy Jackson, ESP, Ibanez, Fernandes, BC Rich, Squier, Epiphone, and several other renowned guitar brands for less than $300!

I purchased a inexpensive instrument made in China by Cort for just $150. The guitar features a licensed Floyd Rose tremolo, a very excellent, fast neck and awesome tone. This instrument puts the "cheap" and "quality" all in one sentence. My inexpensive electric guitar is worth much more than what I paid for it, and it is essentially as good quality than some US made Fenders I have reviewed.

Would you rather purchase the cheapest American made Fender Stratocaster model for $500 or would you rather buy a Korean made Jackson, with Duncan Designed pickups, super fast neck and a Floyd Rose Tremolo system for $300? This conclusion of cheap / expensive electric guitar is all yours.
