Who doesn’t like winning an award? Almost everybody does. Holding the meritorious trophy is a big moment in everybody’s life. The trophy is much deserved for the hard work put into obtaining it. Nobody knows that better than the sportsman who has worked very hard to clinch the gold medal or a comparable elite sports award. Winning awards in an athletic sporting event requires overall concentration, unbeatable stamina and teeth gritting determination on the part of the athlete or sportsman.

There are many tournaments and competitions out there today that award athletes with personalized sports awards for their achievements. There is no bigger reward than to see one’s name engraved on that shiny surface of an award or trophy, along with the covetous title won or the year the honour was achieved. These engraved awards last for generations and are great mementoes to the legacy you leave behind to your children and grandchildren.

Can you imagine if your moment of glory was cut short or snatched away due to an injury caused by faulty running shoes? The thought alone is a heartbreaker to the athlete in all of us. Athletes work day and night with unfailing determination to clinch the coveted gold medal, no way should their race up to the zenith be hindered in anyway, especially by a mere foot injury.

How can all of this heartbreak be avoided? Is there really a better solution out there? Can you finally earn one of those glorious engraved awards, without the risk of a foot related injury? The answer may already be out there, there is a new generation of shoes, which look like nothing more than a pair of socks made of rubber.

A running shoe concept pioneered by Vibram, the first known product in the series of rubber gloved shoes is the FiveFingers. These classic shoes were designed to provide the runners with the barefoot running experience, after research conducted in the field proved that running barefoot provides more stamina to the runner and reduces the risk of injury. This means that running barefoot can actually bring you closer to one of these much coveted sports awards, which you have worked hard all your life to achieve.

Why wear these minimalist shoe-socks combination called FiveFingers and not run absolutely barefoot? The advantage of these barefoot shoes is that one still gets the feel of the surface against the bottom of their feet but avoid the dirt and the undulations in the surface that could come with running completely barefoot, which could also cause injuries or abrasions.

Many athletes, sports award winners and even celebrities are making a switch from the traditional designer running shoes, from such makers as Nike and Adidas, which have built up soles, to this new trend of injury ridden barefoot running shoes. These artificial soles provide a real sense of comfort for the runner and allow them to concentrate on the run and not worry about minute differences in elevation of the running surface.

The popularity of these special shoes has increased so much since 2006 that manufacturers are finding it tough to meet the demand at current stock levels. This popularity begs the question, where else will we start finding these shoes? Will Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson be endorsing the next generation of barefoot shoes, with a barefoot golf shoe? Will LeBron James or Kobe Bryant be dunking on their next opponent wearing barefoot high top basketball shoes? Will Sidney Crosby be skating the Pittsburgh Penguins to their next Stanley Cup in a pair of barefoot hockey shoes? How much faster would Usain Bolt be in the next Olympics with these barefoot running shoes? Will President Obama be sporting a pair of barefoot dress shoes at his next big press conference? The possibilities are endless to the areas which could see this new trend.

The future is wide open, be ready to embrace it… and injury free!
