Luxury is like most things in the eye of the beholder. The definition of luxury differs from person to person and can be defined as the luxury of silence, service or décor and technology. When speaking about luxury hotel suites all of these things are of importance as they are the things that define the general term of luxury in the hospitality industry. When booking a suite at a hotel one looks at many different aspects such as the size of the suite, the size of the bed, the amenities, furnishings and the décor. Having the best of all of these things will obviously mean a steeper price, but this is what separates the regular from the luxurious. Deciding what is luxury can only be determined by each individual and can differ substantially from the next person.
Most hotels offer you a variety of suites to choose from such as your basic suite which is exactly that, basic. These suites usually consist out of two single beds or a regular double bed, basic furnishings such as a TV with your basic TV channels and one extra channel and some movies that you can watch which will be additional on your hotel bill and a bar fridge. The intermediate rooms might feature two double beds or a queen size bed and more elaborate furnishings. The penthouse suites are usually your most luxurious suites and they will feature a separate bedroom and lounging area, a small kitchen, luxurious bathroom, king size bed, only the best furnishings, WI-FI connection, a flat screen TV, fully stocked bar fridge, more movies to watch and more TV channels and maybe even a desktop computer and a DVD player. Most hotels are themed when it comes to their décor in the suites and no matter the suite type is always of the utmost quality.
As you can see that for the right amount of money you can either enjoy your penthouse suite and all the luxuries that it features or you can go for one of the cheaper suites with fewer luxuries. Although your less luxurious suites are not as elaborately furnished as the penthouse suite it does not mean that they are not considered to be luxurious. In my opinion luxury hotel rooms are defined more by their décor than by what they offer you. You might consider the basic suite to be as luxurious as you have ever experienced, maybe you are used to the higher things in life and the penthouse suite does still not satisfy your taste. Like I said luxury is a term that is defined differently by every person.
No matter what your definition of luxurious is, South Africa offers some of the most luxurious hotel suites in the southern hemisphere. Whether it is Africa themed or old Hollywood there is something for everyone and as a beholder I can only describe them as luxurious as I have ever seen.
