Getting a new website indexed is the first thing every webmaster should do. If the website is not indexed, it will never rank for the keywords. Not ranking for the targeted keyword will cause the website to not receive any visitor. Almost 80% of the traffic comes from the search engine so it is important to get your site indexed and rank properly. There are many factors that influenced whether your website will get indexed including XML sitemap, social bookmarking, original content, and spamming.

You should create an XML sitemap and submit it to the search engine. Most of the search engines have a submit page for you to submit the XML sitemap. You can also ping the XML sitemap to you. Before you can add an XML sitemap, you have to add the domain name to your account. By adding an XML sitemap, your site will get indexed faster in the search engine. Besides submitting the XML sitemap, you must get backlinks to your site. Every new site need to have backlinks before they will be considered for inclusion in the database of the search engine.

Social bookmarking your site at Digg will help it to get indexed within 1 – 3 days. You can submit the homepage and a few internal pages to Digg. However, you only need to social bookmark the homepage in order to get indexed. If you social bookmark too many pages, people will pay attention to your account. If the posts caught the attention of the members, it is very likely that the moderator will ban your account. When your account is banned, all your posts will be removed from the database.

After 1 day, the search engine will index the homepage of your site. After that, it will index other pages of your site. If none of the pages from your site is indexed, it means that there is something wrong with your site. Dropped domain names that are repurchased from the domain sale site usually is harder to get indexed. This is because the previous owner may have did some illegal things with the drop domain name. Since the drop domain name is blacklisted, it will be difficult to get indexed and rank in the search engine. If you are using a dropped domain name, you can consider purchasing a new domain name.

If you are using duplicated content, your site will never get indexed. To rectify this problem, you must replace the duplicated content with fresh content. Unique content means content that have fresh ideas that is not already available in other places. If you rewrite the article, it is not counted as unique. To make sure your article is unique, you can check it with copyscape.

Spamming the social bookmarking sites with too many posts can also prevent your site from getting indexed. By social bookmarking too many pages, you are getting too many backlinks in a short time. When you get too many backlinks in a short time, the search engine will punish you. Your site will be thrown to sandbox mode. You will never rank for the targeted keywords in the search result. To prevent this, you should only social bookmark once per day.
