Milky Way Molds has been voted Best Soap Mold Company for three consecutive years by readers of The Saponifier magazine. Milky Way soap mold designs are hand-sculpted by author and artist Catherine Failor. Most importantly to those of who are pro-American, Milky Way Molds is located right here in the US.
Milky Way soap molds can be cleaned with warm water and soap. If the molds have been used, simply soak them in warm water for half an hour or so. DO NOT use hot water or EVER put molds in the dishwasher. The molds will warp.
Milky Way molds can be used for making chocolates, soap, and candles. Once you use a mold for soap or candle making, do not use it for chocolate. The reason why should be obvious. When unmolding your finished product, do not twist or bend the mold. If the product won't come out, place it in the freezer for a few minutes. Alternatively, you can try placing the mold in hot water. Soap is much easier to remove if allowed to remain in the mold 12 - 24 hours after cooling down. Don't try to remove the soap before it's ready. Besides possibly distorting the shape of the soap, you risk damaging the mold.
Over the years, we've ruined more soap molds than we care to admit. We all learn by trial and error. While it's true that you can't put a price on experience, there's nothing more discouraging than ruining an $8 Milky Way mold during first use. The most important tip we can offer is to be gentle with the molds. The molds are durable and should last for years but anyone can ruin a mold without even trying. No matter how much you're tempted, do not bend or twist a Milky Way mold. If you permanently bend the edges, the mold won't sit flat and your soaps will come out uneven. Sometimes a hair dryer is the best tool to remove soaps. Place the mold over a clean area and apply warm heat to the bottom of the mold. DO NOT use high heat. Most soaps will slip out of the mold after a few seconds of low heat. Be sure to keep moving the hair dryer over the mold so you don't apply too much heat to any one spot.
Most Milky Way molds are $7.95. The larger trays are $14.95.
