If you are the cause of a DUI accident and are charged with a DUI you need to know what to be prepared for. There are more charges involved than just the drunk driving charge itself. The different variables involved will determine what type of fines and possible jail time that you will face.

The different charges that can be tacked on vary state from state but are usually similar to each. These will include the extent of injuries that you inflicted on the other person involved in the DUI accident. Your blood alcohol content, or BAC, will be factored in, and the higher it is the harder you will be judged.

Your best case scenario is if you have a wreck where no one else was involved and your blood alcohol content was just enough to place you over the legal limit for driving. You will most likely spend a few days in jail, be given probation, fines, and may lose your license but still be allowed to drive to and from work. If this is the case then you need to search for the cheapest insurance that you can find because your current company may still drop your policy.

You have to keep your insurance current on your vehicle or you can face more charges down the road. Many times the judge will require you to have a machine placed in your vehicle during your probation that will test your breath for alcohol before being able to start your car. You have to rent this machine and it can be quite expensive every month but is a must to drive if you are ordered to use it. This fee and your other fines can be quite expensive and you do not want to fall behind on paying them.

You also don't want to be involved in any other activities that will revoke your probation and send you back to jail. These are some of the things to take into consideration if involved in a DUI accident where no one else was injured. It can be a rough time but if you budget your money, find the most inexpensive insurance, keep your fines payed, and stay out of further trouble, you can get through it.

Your DUI insurance rates are one of your bills that you can keep lower because you can shop around online for the best rates. Don't wait until your current carrier drops you before you start looking either. If you are dropped, it is harder to have insurance reinstated than if you find a policy while still insured.
