CDN is a growing term which is being widely termed as one of the most wanted delivery service satisfier for customers. It stands for content delivery network. It is a tried and tested mechanism to collect more hits and add sales value to your web portal.
One essential parameter here is the CDN nodes? When the end user demands a particular type of content, instead of delivering the content from the base site, it is delivered from these CDN nodes. The CDN nodes do not deploy usually in single locations, but in multiple locations. There is mutual co-operation between them which satisfies content requests which are made by the end users. This basically means that the content is moved to optimizing the process of delivery. This optimizing process may result in an increase in the contents availability globally, performance of the end-user is improved and bandwidth costs are reduced.
Another point which matters in here is that how many servers and nodes make a CDN? This depends on the making of a CDN. The nodes in a CDN range from a few nodes to ten thousands nodes. There is a few which in fact even build a network globally and have just a few geographical pops.
When the performance optimization process is under way, one opts to choose those locations which serve the content to the end user in the best possible way. One might wonder as to how is this selection made for CDN. This selection is made keeping in mind a few points such as a location which has the highest availability when talking of the performance of the server, number of networks should be at the least distance from the clients requesting node, one which has the least number of hops, etc. This optimises the content delivery beyond the networks available locally. Another point here is that many even look at the cost factor while looking out for an ideal location of CDN. At times, the cost factor alone forces the client to choose a specific location.
Most CDN usually tries to get a scenario which is optimal and has two goals in mind to align. One is that it should serve the client in the best possible way so that is does not hurt the users pockets by being too expensive. Second point here is that it should be closest to the clients node.
The CDN mostly operates as one ASP (application service provider) while online on the internet. In fact nowadays, many network owners are increasingly attempting to make their own CDN which increases their revenue, improve delivery of net- content and reduce reliance on other operators. Some network owners however even create their own software for internal CDN and some just flatly make use of software which is available commercially. This is because after being plugged in the CDN, as the logs of usage are not available for a longer period at the servers content source.
There are many online CDN which can be beneficial in managing, distributing and monitoring ones content. Therefore one can come to know about the effectiveness of CDN.
