Almost everyone knows a couple that has the envy of all who know them. Regardless of their background or education, jobs or family, the perfect relationship is often seen as the ultimate dream for most couples. Regardless of the dream, few adults in our country are ever fortunate enough to find that level of ‘dream relationship’. Why this quality and depth of intimacy - though deeply wished but not often attained - is the subject of this article.

There have been millions of pages devoted to the discourse on this subject - of what makes some relationships almost too good to be real - and why that is. The word that surfaces over and over again is ‘Friendship’. To understand how friendship impacts loving relationships we need to understand friendship itself. The overall scope and depth of this issue transcends this article but the basic conclusions of most psychologists should suffice.

Why one person becomes the true and lasting friend of another is based on many things but the root of them seems to be mutual respect. If you truly respect someone then you have an open spirit toward that person and your heart is open to a more lasting depth of relationship. This is true of any type of friendship and in any context. What typically parallels this level of respect tends to be both shared interests and personality blending. Shared interests are not necessarily from the same perspective or degree. Some women, for example, are fatally attracted to men in uniform. Perhaps it is their association with danger or their dedication to duty, some women find it irresistible - even though they may have no personal career interest in the same profession.

Personality blending is the other characteristic mentioned above that tends to be a determinant of the potential for real friendship. Personality blending - the term used by the experts - does not necessarily mean the same type of personality. Many times it is the opposites that attract. Personality blending in this context may be a combination of a very quiet and retreating persona coupled with a gregarious and chatty person. Often this mixture somehow ‘works’ and, hence, the blending occurs.

Romantic relationships that begin with a genuine friendship and lead to a loving relationship are - as can be seen from this analysis - often the ones with the bedrock that we would all aspire to.

If you want to get ex back or if you plan to win your ex back you may find that a grasp of this concept may be key. Regardless, you may learn that seriously trying to get your ex back might be met with a willing partner.
