Your store is paid on a percentage of all the order.s for the month, which is based on a 10% scale. For example, if a customer buys a product with your design for $28.00, you make $2.80 on the order.
There is also an alternate income source with this structure. If you buy your own domain, lets say www.yourshirts.com, and point it to your Cafepress store url, lets say www.cafepress.com/yourshirts, then you set your own commission price for any order made from your domain. For example if you advertise for your domain, www.yourshirts.com, or rank within the search engines and drive traffic to your domain, as in my case, I set my commission at $7.00. Which means every sale that originates from the example www.yourshirts.com, no matter what type of product it is, I make $7.00 instead of $2.80. If you have designs that people want, you can generate quite a bit of money with a Cafepress store.
Keep in mind, after you place your design on the products, that design can make money for you forever, without any more work. I currently have approximately 200 designs in my store working for me.
