Linkbaiting, is something you as a webmaster should be doing every time you write a post, article, or just about anything online for that matter. Back links, especially natural unsolicited back links are a good thing, a really good thing! You should always put out the highest quality content you're capable of, always.
Producing content that prompts other webmasters to want to tell the world they need to visit your site, is the very best form of flattery to my way of thinking!
Linkbaiting has gotten a bad rap of late (because of a few that will stop at nothing to try to gain back links to their site.) Just stay out of the grey areas when linkbaiting, and get your back links for all the right reasons.
The "ethics" of linkbaiting aside, I would like to offer what I feel are the five best techniques for getting other webmasters to link to your content.
So without further adu, here are my five favorite linkbaiting techniques:
Create compelling content-Create content that begs to be linked to. Cover your topic completely, become the ultimate online resource for your chosen topic, include video, audio, and images in your content. Provide real value for your readers, try to produce content that is attention grabbing, unique, provocative, and just plain useful to your visitors.
Be the first to break a story in your niche-Difficult to do, but very effective in getting incoming links! Stay up-to-date on what's going on in your niche, stay on the cutting edge! Give your readers the scoop!
Offer a free tool or piece of software-Give them a good reason to come back to your site, bookmark it, and share your link with others. even if you are unable to produce this tool or software yourself, you can always find someone to do it for you.
Give a list of needed links-Tell your visitors where they can find more quality information on the subject of your post. Save them from having to Google it and search through the results. Make your list (the best it can be!)
Give stuff away-Everybody wants free stuff (I know I do!) So give it to them, and they will share it with their friends. The more value you can give away the more links you'll find showing up.
Put these techniques to work for you in most every thing you write, posts, articles, etc. and you will begin to find back links showing up with regularity. Remember these kind of unsolicited, natural back links are some of the most valuable links there are!
