There has been a lot of buzz in the fishing iworld with the arrival to market of the Daiwa Saltiga 6500 reel. Due to the prestige connected with a premium product the reel has quickly found its way out on to the water and postivie reports are emerging. Perhaps one of really significant things about his reel, is the effort that has been put in to make durable. To prevent water entering, both the gearbox and the drag system are completely sealed units and are enclosed inside a Hardbodyz reel casing. Not only is that excellent news for saltwater fishing but the gearbox is as tough as boots and delivers enormous cranking power.

In order to accomplish the very highest perfomance levels, top quality materials have been incorporated in every single aspect of the reels construction. High grade stainless steel has been used for the 14 ball bearings in the reel and metal is used exclusively throughout the rest of the reels construction. The powerhouse gear box is cranked directly via the single piece machined aluminum handle. To get state of the art performance from the gearbox, digital technology is used to control cuttingof gears to very high tolerance levels out of high grade stainless steel and marine bronze. Even the big spherical gripper knob attached to the handle is made from machined metal. It is good to see that these reels are made in Japan and not outsourced for manufacture in Malaysia.

In keeping with the quality build throughout the reel the exterior finish has a brilliant sheen in a choice of Gold, Blue or Silver. With a spool capacity of 550 yds of 50 lb line you are unlikely to ever be outrun by a fish. A coating of titanium nitride to the spool lip ensures easy casting and stops the surface wearing and scratching. You also get a bunch of other hi-tech specs including cam driven ball bearing supported oscillation with a titanium anti-twist line roller, maual return air bail arm, machined aluminum spool, and super low friction main shaft. Daiwa have certainly uppped the anti with the oversized fully sealed drag mechanism on the Saltiga 6500 which has a rated output of 66 lbs! This is not a misprint.

Now I am sure that you are starting to get the picture here. Here you have a gloves off, no holds barred, take no prisoners, extreme sports fishing reel. As well as offering stacks of power and maximum durability the reel is quite light at only 29.8 ozs If you want the ultimate spinning reel available that is capable of llanding record class fighting fish, then this reel has to be a top challenger.
