An aberrant electrical outlet poses a major risk not only to the internal wiring but also to the associated appliances and the devices as well. Neglecting the repair work for long may invite a possible fire hazard.

Replacing an electrical outlet with a new one is a simple to follow procedure that requires moderate logic and expertise. Make sure that all the safety precautions are kept in tact though.

Beforehand cut off the main electricity supply from the main electrical circuit breaker box. Turn off the main breaker switch followed by the other switches. Take out a voltage tester or a pen tester from the tool kit and insert the probes of the tester into the plug. If the tester's neon bulb doesn't glow then proceed to the next step else recheck the circuit breaker box. Remember that the electricity supply to the outlet must be suspended completely in order to proceed further.

After ensuring that there is no current in the outlet, unscrew the cover plate with the help of tools such as pliers and screwdrivers. Pull out the outlet a few inches from the wall and place the screws in a convenient location so that they are located easily once the new outlet is ready to be screwed on to the wall.

Take a color pen or a tape roll to mark down the wiring fixtures as discovered on the outlet board such that it helps you with connecting wires again during the new socket's installation. The indications must be clear enough such that no uncertainty arises later.

Next unscrew the wires from the terminals to completely detach the outlet and take it to a local electrical store. The salesperson would hand over the respective outlet to you considering the functionality of the old one. Move to the site to screw the wires to the new outlet's terminals comparing the connections to the old setting. Once socket is well connected, cover the outlet with the plate and screw it tightly with the help of a screwdriver.

Render normal supply to the outlet by turning the breaker switches on. Manipulate the working of the outlet with a voltage tester or an affiliated appliance.

Always keep in mind that the replacement of the outlet is made when a damage or an irregularity is suffered by one of its terminals or wires.
