Subliminal learning is a technique of learning through which things are learnt without the need for any application of concentration or thought. It works through stimulating those areas of the brain which control vision and hearing on a subconscious level.
Subliminal techniques have often been used in advertising; often quite illegally, whilst there have also been instances of such practices in political propaganda broadcasts. However, it is the learning process that subliminal techniques can be truly beneficial.
Essentially, subliminal learning could of course mean that we are able to learn without having to put any work in. Though this is not quite how it works of course; using it as a process to learn alongside other more traditional techniques and hard work however, it is perfectly plausible.
Even talk of subliminal learning will evoke much skepticism from many. But there are signs that suggest we all subliminally learn through daily life already.
Take music for example. It seems very easy to learn a song, and whilst much of this would be learnt through listening to the song regularly, it is more than that. Think about the last time you had a song in your head for the day, and you didn't know why. There are those that would argue it was as a result of subliminal learning.
With words in our native language too, where do they come from? We certainly do not study each word individually. Again, repetition has a part to play, but it is more than that alone; because it happens with words we may have only heard the once.
And it is here, that studies start from, into how it could be exploited. Potentially, if a sound theory, learning new and more skills could become achievable for us all.
These studies into how it can be harnessed are still in their embryonic stages of course, despite methods being put into practice by advertising houses. And there are of course are swell of protagonists that remain skeptical. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle, and certain learning will not be affected by such practices.
Languages may be able to be learned, but only in part; language structure and rule of languages is complex of course and make up a so called "high process" of learning. Much the same can be said of subjects like math and science too. However, where concentration is not necessarily needed in such a high state; with music and words for example, subliminal learning may well be applicable.
