The job of a x-ray tech is one that has a degree in Radiography. This individual must have a base degree in healthcare of some form before being allowed to enter a school of Radiography. This degree is the foundation for all x-ray tech proper training. Programs vary from one to four years with the average certification taking place around two years. This allows for a fully diversified course of study. Topics include radiographic procedures and patient positioning, pathology, radiation biology, radiation physics, physiology and anatomy. These can all be acquired through online or classes at brick and mortar colleges. Some may offer only one, while others may offer a combination of both. Some course work must be completed in the clinic. Assignments cover all varieties of general diagnostic procedures as well as parts of specialized components such as computerized tomography(CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI).

MRI Guidance
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The concept of the MRI is for doctors and other healthcare professionals to visually examine the structure and functions of the body from the inside. The image produced is an extremely detailed picture of the body from any plane. When compared to the CT (computerized tomography) imaging, the MRI has a much more pronounced contrast of the soft tissue. The contrast allows for a greater correct diagnosis for diseases that are oncological, cardiological, neurological, or musculoskeletal.
Students that have completed the Radiology degree are eligible for MRI training sessions. Most schools will build upon the information already acquired but utilizing the MRI machine. They will be trained on patient care, proper retraining for the equipment, proper protection procedures, problem solving skills and critical thinking skills for Magnetic Resonance machines. An MRI machine is simply a giant scanner that, when activated, creates a large magnetic field. This field then aligns each of the hydrogen atoms inside the patient’s body. Radio waves are emitted so that the hydrogen atoms give off a faint radio signal. These signals are then reconstructed to become images.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography Courses
This is a specialty field that is offered to those who have already obtained the degree in Radiology. This may be the perfect option for anyone worried about radiation. This is one of the only types/versions of x-ray technologist position that is radiation free. Skills are acquired to help detect vascular problems, heart defects and possible heart attack symptoms. The training involves becoming well-versed in the procedures and applications of using the ultrasound machine. The machine uses sound waves in order to produce images of internal organs. X-ray technicians studying Diagnostic Medical Sonography are trained in the use of the machine as well as what measurements and images to capture when examining a patient. Areas of the body that are often viewed using this method are the female reproductive organs, blood vessels, abdomen, breasts, heart and prostrate. All work for this degree is performed in a classroom, laboratory, or clinic.
Other Types of Retraining Available
X-Ray Technician training courses goes a step further in the fields of Nuclear Medicine Technology and Radiation Therapy. Nuclear medical procedures are some of the newest ones and all students are trained in the classroom as well as in the clinics. This includes such things as In-Vitro Nuclear Medicine and SPECT systems techniques. Radiation Therapy involves a 16 to 20 month course that covers not only the technical information and importance of this position but how to deal with the psychological effects as well.
