Emotional Freedom Technique For Sjogren's Syndrome Success!
Mr. P.D., a fifty year old married male, presented to the current examiner asking if anything might be in hot water his Sjogren's Syndrome.
Sjogren's Syndrome may be a chronic illness in that white blood cells attack varied glands in the body that manufacture moisture. Initial symptoms occur in the mouth and might move on to the eyes, though alternative organs within the body might be affected.
Mr. P.D. said that he was using three or four 5 mg. tablets of Salagen whole pilocarpine daily. This drug mimics acetylcholine, a substance normally produced by nerve cells to maintain moist secretions like saliva. The patient had been told higher doses wouldn't be more effective. He was involved as a result of inadequate saliva had already made it necessary for him to have 2 molars extracted by his dentist, who had diagnosed the illness, and he expected two a lot of molar extractions to be necessary. These molars would all later be replaced by implants.
Mr. P.D. appeared to own a real oral problem; by his report only his salivary glands were affected. Though he was worried things might worsen, and that his eyes might suffer, he had no drawback with them. He had no signs of depression or any alternative mental symptoms; he only had what appeared to be a real health concern.
Since the central nervous system is believed to be responsible for half of the symptoms of Sjogren's, attempting Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) appeared appropriate. We took a complete history of how symptoms had started, and what was related to them in terms of recollections or imagery. The patient associated the onset of the Sjogren's with a dream reliving the movie "The Fly" with Jeff Goldblum. Somehow, when his mouth became dry, he had the sensation he was becoming a fly as if he were in the movie. He would sometimes come to life with this feeling at night.
Since Sjogren's meant a "very dry mouth" to the present patient, we did the first round of the EFT Basic Recipe on the words "dry mouth," and managed to forgive his dentist, his teeth, and his mouth and his other physicians and anybody who had diagnosed or counseled treatment.
Whereas the patient was tapping along with his right hand on the acupuncture meridian designated as the thyroid space of his left hand, I asked him to continue tapping as we tend to did a visualization exercise. He imagined himself during a theater, watching "The Fly." He fast forwarded the movie from starting to end, as he had it quite clear in his mind and said he may see himself go though all of the major scenes. Then, we have a tendency to asked him to run the movie backward in his mind, from end to beginning. He said he was in a position to do this easily as well. Then, we visualized him leaving the theater, and also the movie's name being kicked off the marquee as it wouldn't run again.
We tend to went through another round of the EFT Basic Recipe, creating affirmations concerning moving forward in life, leaving behind The Fly and yield all problems connected to a dry mouth.
When the tapping was over, I told the patient to relax and blow his issues out to the universe. Neither he nor I was ready for what happened. He started to literally froth at the mouth, manufacturing so dramatic an amount of saliva that he started drooling everywhere his shirt and we have a tendency to required some tissues to wash things up.
As of an eight month follow-up, the patient, who has learned how to do EFT himself, has not needed it for this symptom. We have a tendency to suggested some alternate styles of "artificial saliva" or salivary stimulants that he might use minimally, but has had no need to do therefore within the past many weeks. He has had no additional dental harm and cannot remember the last time he required pilocarpine.
