The American author Stephanie Meyer is best known for the Twilight novels. It is a series of four novels based on vampire romance. The series has sold more than a 100 million copies worldwide making her the highest selling author for the years 2008 and 2009. The book brings to life the story of a teenage girl in Forks, Washington, Isabella ‘Bella’ Swan who falls in love with a vampire Edward Cullen. Primarily told from Bella’s viewpoint, the series has been translated into 38 languages owing to its skyrocketing popularity. Some parts of the series have been told from the viewpoint of Jacob Black, a werewolf. The unpublished retelling of Twilight, Midnight Sun is from 104 year old Cullen’s point of view. The beauty of the Twilight series lies in the fact that even a careless browse through the novels helps one chart the entire plot.

In Twilight, Bella moves to Forks. A handsome but uncannily mysterious Edward Cullen comes into her life to whom she finds herself involuntarily drawn to. Eventually, she comes to know that Cullen is a vampire hailing from a family which drinks animal blood instead of human. They fall in love but a sadistic vampire, James is on the prowl to hunt down Bella. The description of the Cullens’ struggle to defend her is gripping to say the least. At the end of the novel, Edward slays James and returns to Forks with a seriously wounded Bella.

New Moon starts with Edward’s decision to leave Forks as he believes he is putting Bella’s life in danger. Its takes a werewolf, Jacob Black to lift her out of depression and ensure her safety from the clutches of Victoria, the vampire from James’ family seeking to avenge his death by killing Bella. A misunderstanding makes Edward believe that Bella is dead. This drives him to commit suicide just to be stopped in time by Bella and Alice, Edward’s sister. The meet with Volturi, a powerful vampire coven and are released and reunited on the condition that Bella be turned into a vampire in the near future.

In Eclipse, Meyer writes about how Edward’s vampire family and Jacob’s pack of werewolves join forces to destroy an army of newborn vampires created by a beaten and bruised Victoria. Her attempts to seek revenge fail, yet again. In this novel, Bella finds herself torn between her relationship with Edward and friendship with Jacob. Finally, Edward’s love prevails and she agrees to marry him.

Breaking dawn is centered on Renesmee, Edward and Bella’s daughter. Pregnancy severely weakens Bella and pushes her to the brink of death but Edward injects her with his venom and hence, the child is born to vampire parents. Renesmee on the other hand, is mistaken for an immortal child. However, after an intense session, the Cullens convince the Volturi that the child poses no threat to vampires or their secrets. They are left in peace thereby bringing an end to one of the most extraordinarily written series in recent times.

The Twilight Saga is the Twilight Movie series. Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for the characters of Bella and Edward, the Twilight movie series has scripted its own success story with The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) by Chris Weitz breaking all box office records. Twilight (2008) and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) have also done decently well with the latter becoming the first Twilight film to be released in IMAX.
