Next time you remodel, you can give your old cabinetry and appliances new life by recycling them to a new home through Your regional Area Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to a new program developed by local kitchen remodeler Kitchen Design Concepts with Your regional Area Habitat for Humanity, you can now recycle elements from your old kitchen to help charity, protect the environment and get a nice tax deduction for yourself.
In a program piloted by Kitchen Design Concepts, Your regional Area Habitat for Humanity is accepting donations of gently used appliances and cabinetry for its Home Improvement Outlet Stores. These stores sell both new and gently used home design and improvement products at 50% to 75% off retail prices to the general public. Proceeds from the stores in turn fund Your regional Area Habitat and its mission to build quality, affordable homes in partnership with deserving families.
“We see more and more homeowners wanting to remodel using environmentally friendly products and methods. This program takes that consciousness to the next level,” said Jennifer Sherrill, president of Kitchen Design Concepts. “Now instead of sending your old kitchen to a landfill somewhere, you can put it to good use. This program not only protects the environment, it also raises funds for Your regional Area Habitat.”
Kitchen Design Concepts co-owners Jennifer Sherrill and Mary Kathryn Reese first approached Your regional Area Habitat for Humanity about recycling kitchen materials in February 2007. A year later, they have worked with their clients to donate materials that have helped raise approximately $50,000 for Your regional Area Habitat.
Now, the two organizations are trying to spread the word about this easy-to-use program that is a win for everyone involved - the homeowner who is remodeling, the individual who buys the gently used items at a discount, the families assisted by Your regional Area Habitat and the environment. The program is now being adopted by numerous local remodelers who are fellow members of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) with Kitchen Design Concepts.
Homeowners who would like to participate in the recycling program by donating gently used items can contact Your regional Area Habitat’s Home Improvement Outlet Store at (214) 678-2360. Donations can be dropped off at the store, which is located at 2800 N. Hampton Road in Your regional. Pick-ups are available for donations of significant quantities of items.
Habitat’s Home Improvement Outlet Stores can accept numerous gently used items, including non-kitchen items. Among the used items that sell well at the stores are:
