To do it yourself, or trust an outsider, that is the question.

Everyone would like to keep their car looking brand new and keeping on top of chips and scratches in the paintwork will definitely help. The question most people have holding them back from a do it yourself paint chip repair is ‘what can I repair myself and what should I send to the professionals to do?’ This guide will provide you with all the answers to paint chip repairs at home; I am sure you will be surprised at what you are able to do with your paint repair kit. Doing it yourself is the best way to keep up with the little dings and scratches that tend to make your car look older and cheaper.

It is important to remember that paint chip repair kits may not be the answer to all your paint repairs but will definitely save you hundreds of dollars at the body shop for suitable repairs. Paint repair kits are primarily designed to repair chips but will work equally as well on most types of scratches as well. Even if the scratch is so deep that it is down to the metal, a paint chip repair kit can still be used. Light surface scratches can usually be buffed out or a light coat of repair paint might do the trick. You may also use a do it yourself repair kit for bumpers and color coded molding. Repair kits work very well on road rashed bumpers making them look brand new again.

Scratches that are very wide however may need to be filled and sprayed at the body shop to get a like new repair but if this is not affordable you can still use a repair kit to at least match the color and make it look much less intrusive. Key Scratches are also a little bit trickier to fill and the best repairs can be done at home on darker colored vehicles. If you are looking for a complete ‘as new’ fix on key scratches it is probably best to see your local body shop if you can afford it as these types of scratches in the paintwork can be a lot harder to disguise.

What most people don’t realize though is that you can repair a car that has metallic paint or tri coat colors. The paint matching technology has come so far these days that you won’t be able to tell the difference in the color. You can locate your vehicles paint color on a sticker inside of the door. If this cannot be found or is illegible, contact either the paint repair kit manufacturer or your car manufacturer with the cars make, model and year for that perfect match.

There are some great paint chip repair kits out there, but the best we’ve found is at Paint Chip Repair.com! It’s easy to use and affordable. You’ll feel a true sense of satisfaction if you can do it yourself, and if you do, you should get the best kit available.
