So you and your partner have made the decision to be married. Obviously, after a few days, the next most important task on your list is deciding on a date for the wedding. And, your wedding will be one of the most complicated events that you will ever have to plan for.
Even if you have been through it before, the number of decisions that you both will have to make in the coming months can easily overwhelm you. That's why the sooner you settle on a date, the sooner you can start to line up all of the pieces that have to be in place for the wedding to be a successful one. So what are the things that you need to plan for?
Once the wedding date is set, you can begin to plan the hundreds of other little things that have to be done for the wedding. Probably, one of the more important decisions that will have to be made is the bride's dress. Sometimes, the decision is easy. The bride will simply wear the dress that her mother has passed down to her. More often, however, in an effort to make her dress unique, the bride will elect to choose a dress that has been customized for her.
Because everyone wants a perfect wedding, it can literally take months to choose the ideal wedding dress. And once it is chosen, you have to include time for adjustments, alterations, and most important - dieting, to ensure that once the wedding date is reached, your wedding dress will still fit you perfectly.
Planning for a wedding, even a small one, means that professionals are going to have to be involved. It is unavoidable. And, in order to do the best job possible, these professionals require lead times. This means that the faster you are able to tie them up, the better. What do you need? You are going to need include a photographer, possibly a videographer, a florist, and a caterer. And, in order to plan their schedules, they all need to know the wedding date.
As you begin to choose the particular professionals for each category, watch your pocketbook and try not to spend more than the amount that you have budgeted. It is a rare wedding indeed, that does not exceed its budget. But at least try to keep it close. Doing this will help to ensure that you don't start off your marriage financially in the red.
And, finally, something that is of extreme importance to all wedding couples is the matter of securing a suitable reception hall and wedding venue. You will find that some of the more popular places will have been booked months and even years in advance. If you want a quick wedding, these will quickly have to be ruled out.
Traditional wedding halls are becoming more and more difficult to book. As a result, one thing that a lot more wedding couples are doing is to plan for their wedding and reception to take place at unusual places where they won't be up against so much competition. For example, a tasteful ceremony at a museum, in a nature park, an orchestra hall, or even in a ball park can often be more memorable that one at a banquet hall or church.
The trick to succeeding in all of this, however, is to first determine the date of your wedding.
