Home is one of the largest investment for any homeowner and everybody wants to have a beautiful home. Besides other decorating items, lighting plays a very important role in the look and feel of a place. You can create any kind of environment with different lighting styles.

The lighting needs changes with different rooms. For example, task areas like kitchen, bathroom, home office etc. will have different lighting styles than living rooms which include bedrooms, family rooms etc.

Selecting lights for task areas is very simple as compared to selecting lights for living areas because task areas are used for specific activities rather than spending free time with family. So, you do not have to think about the mood and the environment you want to create for such areas which is a major concern for living areas.

To light up task areas, ambient lighting is mostly used as the main lighting source. It gives a beautiful look to the room and is functional at the same time. Then comes task lights for these rooms. These are used in areas where a particular task is performed like in a kitchen over the sink or counter top or over a bathroom mirror.

You can use accent lights in task areas to to add beauty and style. Generally accent lights are used to accent special features of a room like any artwork or elegant wood work in the room.

When deciding on lighting for the living areas you will want to work in the opposite direction. For example, in task areas you choose ambient, task, and then accent lighting. For living areas you use accent, task, and then ambient.

With accent lights, you can draw special attention to certain features of the room like any painting, sculpture or any other show piece. Use task lights in places like reading area or over a pool table etc. and you can include ambient lighting where extra light is required.

So, lighting types are designed to work together to complete the home. After choosing the type you will want to choose the fixtures that match your style. Whatever your preference in lighting design, you are sure to find something that will accent your home beautifully.
