If you've searched for a job you've learned there are hundreds of others searching too. If you're applying for a job offering a career, you have to understand you're up against many competitors seeking an interview for the same position. The hiring companies don't have time to read every resume. That's why cover letters that stand out is so important. Here are ways to increase your marketability.

When you sit down to right your cover letter there are a few things to think about first to have a chance of it getting reviewed. One consideration is to keep it to one page making it easier for the reviewer who wants to scan the details and pick you're your qualifications outlined quickly.

Start your cover letters with your contact information. If you have the name of the Hiring Manager, address it to them specifically. Be sure to include the job title and any other reference information that was included in the job posting. The second step is to tailor your cover letters to the specific position you are applying for.

Then you'll need an introduction. This describes your interest in the position, how it fits into future goals and why you'll be an asset to the organization. This should be a short paragraph with 2 to 3 sentences.

The third step is to share intriguing information about qualifications specific to the position applying for. This should be tailored to some of the requirements listed in the job posting. This will catch the recruiter's eye, if you are promoting levels of expertise based on the qualifications they are seeking in an applicant. This is well you showcase your skills and sell our qualifications.

Now that you've successfully described why you are the best fit, it's time to finish with a strong close. In your close, thank them in advance for their time letting them know you look forward to the opportunity to discussing your credentials and the position, using the title of the position in further detail at their earliest convenience. Be sure to let them know that your resume that provides further details is attached.

The last step to take is to thoroughly look it over and correct mistakes. The worst thing you can do is tarnish a professional image you want to project with cover letters with mistakes. You also want to make sure it has a perfect flow of content and reads well. If it's hard to understand and has to be reread to capture details, then you diminish your chances to stand out. Have friend read and advise you. Also don't include salary ranges and ages.

Another suggestion before you send out your cover letters and resumes, make sure that the areas of expertise and qualifications described are not cut and pasted from your resume. This should be presented in a different format that sums up your expertise in a way that differs from what the resume is portraying. When you complete these phases, it won't be long before you land the job.
