If you have ringing in your ears you know that you have good quality days and awful days. It took me a long time to work out what the triggers are for me. Much as I don't like to confess it alcohol is one of them. I had only two bottles of beer tonight and it's noticeably louder. Or at least I imagine it is.
It's all subjective
That's the problem isn't it? It's subjective, meaning that I can hear it, not you. So the only person who can say if its louder or not is the person with tinnitus! I did try cutting out alcohol and it appeared to work, Except (and there is always a but isn't there?) I was on vacation, near the ocean (a typical masking noise) and I was relaxed. Masking noises and lack of constant worry are both known to make tinnitus better. I need to cut back when I'm not on vacation (or carry on regardless) but the social and work pressure we all live under makes it hard. That's why diets always fail. It's not the desire to want to change, it's the unremitting life pressure that wears you down.
It's a choice, abstain or not, modify or not. There's always a balance. I guess its true about all aspects of life.
It's also accurate of tinnitus cures. There will be some types of tinnitus which seem untreatable and others which are minor and go easily. The balance here is to be sensible when assessing a treatment or help aid. If whatever you try improves things FOR YOU then it works. Keep in mind this is all subjective.
Anyhow, I go off on a tangent. The title is tinnitus and alcohol but that's not the entire story. Heaps of things we do or consume can give us tinnitus or indeed make it worse. For instance, LOUD music is a big cause. I can hear it now, "well I'm OK because I do not go to concert events". Hummmm. Got an MP3 player? It's actually easy to play personal stereos excessively loud and hey presto Hearing Damage and Tinnitus!
So what else do you consume that causes ringing in your ears? Alcohol (already discussed, some prescription drug treatments and some over the counter drugs like aspirin. Is that every one? Not really, If I said being fat brought on ringing in your ears you'd laugh but its not too far off the mark. High blood pressure can cause tinnitus and being overweight is a factor in raising blood pressure.
