One of the most wonderful creations in this world is dogs. Commonly known as man’s best friend, dogs have been man’s valuable possession being his pet and dependable protector in times of trouble. How many stories were told of a dog that saved his master from threat or danger? Dogs are not simply animals, they are also part of man’s households. No wonder, all over the world, dogs have been well-loved by owners.

Stories about dogs have been told for centuries. In the olden times, they were used by men to hunt in the forest. Dogs have a great sense of smell, much more than humans. Until now, dogs were proven to be useful for men, not only as pets to play with, but also as a guide, a guard, and a friend to rely on.

Dog-owners like you - if you truly love your dogs - should make sure that you spend some money to buy needed accessories for your dog. One of these is the dog collar which is an essential part of dog’s life. Dog collars are not only important in handling dogs; they are also needed to make them look nice and cute. Dog collars serve a variety of purpose, i.e., training, health or identification of dog.

Sometimes, dogs tend to be out of control - especially when barking! - when you are out on the streets or outside your house. This is because they feel some sort of stress or anxiety or they see people that they think are strangers. Dog collars are best solution to this kind of problem as these can pacify and keep your dog under control.

As a caring dog owner, you should also make sure that your dog collar is comfortable enough or fit well your dog’s neck. Otherwise, your dog can easily get hurt or strangled with the collar. Dog collars come in different designs, sizes and colors. Leather, hemp, nylon and metal are the most common materials used to manufacture dog collars and manufacturers normally make dog collars at specific range of sizes. However, there are cases, when any of the specific sizes of dog collars would not fit your dog at all, then you must a have a customized dog collar made for you.

One of the most important uses of a collar is that it holds the identification of the dog and the dog-owner. This is very important so that if ever your dog gets lost, the people who find him will be able to contact you.

Dog collars are sometimes used for training purposes. There is for example the so-called shock dog collar which is equipped with electrical signals or vibration tones to tell your dogs what to do and not to do. To bridle your dogs not to do a specific thing, i.e. going to specific areas of the house or neighborhood, a small electrical shock can simply do it for you.

Recent technology has also enabled specialized dog collars to protect your dog from ticks, fleas or even being infested when wet. There are dog collars available in the market, containing an insecticide substance, i.e. propoxur, which can prevent your dog from having ticks and fleas, including other household parasites. Other dog collars are also waterproof to prevent your dog from being infested when wet.
