Technology has caught up with shooting accessories, especially rifle scopes. There are two different types of rifle scopes available. The three types are telescopic scopes and electronic scopes. In this article, we will look at both types and go over them a bit.
Telescopic rifle scopes
The most common rifle scopes are the telescopic ones. Simply put, these are generally waterproof tubes with an eyepiece on one end and a lens on the other that house the crosshairs, which are also known as reticles. If you're aiming at a target which is either below or above eye level, your scope will need to be adjusted accordingly, and fortunately such adjustments are possible with telescopic scopes. The also allow for left and right adjustment so that the shooter can compensate for any prevailing winds. Providing you know how to take advantage of the various setting, you should have no problem hitting your target.
Electronic rifle scopes
When you first lay hand on one of these scopes, you realize just how far technology has come. One of the favorite electronic scopes is the red dot scopes. These don't utilize crosshairs at all, but instead, they mark your target with a red dot, and if you're willing to fork out enough money for a really good one, it will even tell you exactly how far away your target is. Some even allow combine fully programmable elevation and windage settings.
When you aim at your target with one of these beauties, it will let you know exactly how far away your target is, and then a red dot will appear on your target. All you're required to do is position the dot on the exact area you want to hit, and then pull the trigger. Yes, even a poor shooter can become an instant marksman.
Electronic rifle scopes also have adjustable magnification. If you've ever used the zoom feature on your digital camera, you'll know exactly what to expect, because the electronic scopes also make use of digital zooming. And, if you really don't want to bother with having to push a button, you get red dot scopes which also have an auto-focus feature.
Contrary to what many people believe, laser sights and reflex sights are not rifle scopes at all. With these sights, when the red dot on your target, the dot is physically on the target. Diopter sights on the other hand, are not even scopes at all, but instead, they're simply a sighting aid.
People use rifle scopes because they make hitting your target a whole lot easier. Irrespective of which type of scope you prefer, you should definitely make a point of buying a good one so that you can be well prepared for the new hunting season.
