Heartburn may be the most common physical problem known to man, at least in America where we eat just about anything at anytime. This article will take a brief look at the symptoms and treatment of acid reflux disease and hopefully it will help you to gain victory over your suffering. I believe if you follow what is here you can achieve relief.
When we eat foods that are too spicy or full of citrus acids we get that burning sensation in our throat and chest. If we pig out and eat too much too fast look out because we will pay for it later. When we eat right before we hit the sack and go to bed we suffer through the night with heartburn. It is not fun but for some it just becomes a fact of life. It does not have to be, it can be cured, the relief is just around the corner.
Basically there are three main symptoms of acid reflux disease.
Heartburn, which occurs when the nerve fibers in the esophagus are bombarded with stomach acids. The stimulation of these nerve endings sends that burning feeling from the middle of the chest all the way up into the neck and it is not at all comfortable. Many times it can mimic a heart attack so it is not something to ignore. Because acid reflux is stimulated by eating heartburn is more common after meals and is especially common when we lay down because the gravity then allows that stinking acid to drip into he esophagus.
Regurgitation, also a symptom of this disease, especially for those with a more severe case of it. For most people the small amounts of acid stays in the lower esophagus but for some and it may not be a constant thing they will find fluid and even small chunks of food in their mouth or upper throat. The acids then not only affect the throat but can also eat away at our teeth.
Nausea is the third symptom of acid reflux disease. That nausea feeling is not as common as the other two symptoms but it does occur in some cases. I have to think that if I am regurgitating liquid and food back up into my mouth I am going to become a bit nauseated. It does not happen for every one but it is one of the symptoms that can accompany the burning sensation of heartburn or it may be an all by itself symptom.
I am sure that you know that we are all different and what affects me may not affect you. I can eat pizza all night long with no problems. Yet if my wife eats more than two pieces she will suffer. The tomato sauce hits her gut and look out. Yet if I eat a few pieces of chocolate shortly before bedtime then I wake up and need to calm the fire in my belly. You get the drift we are all different and so we need to figure out what foods set us off as individuals and then watch what we eat.
It is a wise thing not to eat within 2 to 3 hours before bedtime and it is always better to eat five to six smaller meals a day and stay away from to much alcohol and coffee. Some simple lifestyle changes in your diet and habits can make a huge difference in the amount of times you suffer form acid reflux disease.
There are a few easy cures that are found right in your own kitchen. Many times a glass of warm milk can help although for some this might just set it off. Drinking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of water at each meal can help curb your heartburn. A glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda will also act like an antacid to ease the discomfort of heartburn and cost a whole lot less than Tums. The next time you have the symptoms try one of these quick fixes for a natural treatment of you acid reflux.
