For those who are interested in erasing their history of websites visited on the Internet for whatever reason, there is a fairly straightforward way to go about how to erase Internet history from Internet Explorer, or at least the basics of sites visited, cookies left behind and other items that are a normal part of operating within the Internet explorer environment.

The first thing you'll need to do when you go to erase is to make sure that you eliminate cookies, visits to other Internet sites and the history of searches you have conducted. You'll also want to eliminate any save and run histories as well as histories of any documents you have recently opened. Internet Explorer always creates these histories whenever it is used.

Therefore, go up to the "Tools" menu and click on it. It is usually in the upper right-hand corner in Internet Explorer 7 and above. From there click on the "Options" tab and look for the "delete all" button in left-click it. If you want, you can go down each erasure button and eliminate any cookies, saved forms and password data histories and also temporary files. As the basics go, that's pretty much it.

Always understand, though, that erasing in such a way never completely eliminates all of the areas in which your Internet history has been left behind on a hard drive. If you want to carry out a more thorough erasure, he'll need to find a commercial program that specializes in helping to erase in this manner. Some are actually free for download, and all will help erase a registry history

The first thing to do is to bring up an MS Explorer window and then right-click "C:drive" and then Search. Once that has been accomplished, click the "For Files and Folders" tab and then enter "index.dat" in the field that says "Filename." Once you've done that, all you'll need to do is upload a common commercial program that will help to overwrite the index.dat file history.

As far as the basics of how to erase Internet history, there isn't much more to know then just how to go from the "Tools" in Internet Explorer and then to the "Options" tab and then selecting what you want erased. Those who are more adventuresome and want to be far more thorough can go into MS Explorer and create an "index.dat" file though they will need some sort of hex file editor to do so.
