Whilst fuel efficiency may not at first sight appear to be very high on the agenda for many drivers of high performance SUV and Crossover vehicles, nevertheless it makes perfect sense in today's uncertain economic and political climate; especially if it is not achieved at the expense of performance. Which is why the new Scorpion Verde tyre from Pirelli Tyres is likely to be seen as a welcome trend by users of these powerful, and some say controversial, vehicles. Launched by Pirelli Tyres to meet what the company believes is a growing interest in eco conscious SUV tyres, it's certainly worth a second look.
Clearly, Pirelli Tyres are perfectly aware of the forthcoming tyre labeling regulations and are positioning the Scorpion Verde as "the first high-performance eco tyre for vehicles with the highest environmental impact." What makes this claim more substantial than simply an advertising slogan for Pirelli Tyres is that behind it lies a very real and demonstrable fact; because this new tyre from Pirelli Tyres delivers greatly improved rolling resistance that sets it apart from previous high performance SUV offerings.
Moreover, it is not simply lower rolling resistance that contributes to the green credentials of the Scorpion Verde. Indeed Pirelli Tyres are justifiably proud of their claim that this high performance eco tyre has been designed from the ground up to be lighter, to provide greater longevity and to use 10 per cent fewer raw materials. It's clear therefore that this is a genuine initiative from Pirelli Tyres that really can be seen to be a major tyre manufacturer offering environmentally friendly benefits.
In fact it's fair to say that Pirelli Tyres can demonstrate a considerable heritage in producing eco-friendly tyres. Indeed the Scorpion Verde is the latest in a line of eco-friendly tyres from Pirelli Tyres; an initiative inaugurated in 2008 with the Cinturato P4 and P6 and followed up in 2009 with the P7; the first tyre for medium and high-powered cars to be marketed by them as an ecologically aware tyre.
With the Scorpion Verde tyre from Pirelli Tyres mounted as original equipment on the Volkswagen Touareg and now available on the replacement market, it completes Pirelli Tyres range of Scorpion tyres, which already includes the ATR for 4x4s, and the Scorpion Zero for more high performing SUVs.
