Whenever it comes to maintaining physical fitness and health levels, increasing cardiovascular health and strengthening the heart aerobic exercise has shown to be incredibly effective. Just like any other muscle the heart could be made stronger through physical activity such as aerobics which elevates the heart rate, consequently making it work harder.

aerobic workouts are on one side of the spectrum and anaerobics on the other. While anaerobics may also be effective in enhancing and maintaining cardiovascular health it tends to also produce more injury as the your body grows older. And a lot of physical fitness enthusiasts will opt for aerobic routines as it has a tendency to be gentler on the body.

Almost any physical activity that raises the heart rate and can be done continuously (non-stop) for 15-20 minutes or more such as walking, jogging, swimming, biking, etc. Anaerobic activity is brief 15-30 second all out bursts followed by recovery. While both can be an excellent option for maintaining and enhancing cardiovascular health many athletes choose aerobic exercise as it generally gentler on the body. Anaerobic activity raises the heart rate higher, but aerobic workouts elevates it for a greater length of time. Both may be an extremely effective way to have a strong cardiovascular system, basically it's a matter of choice.

While any physical activity that increases the heart rate for an extended period of time will help to keep your cardiovascular system strong it's also vital that you eat the right foods and maintain a healthy lifestyle. While your system can probably handle not being in good physical shape and feeding on junk foods in your 20's and 30's while it's still young and strong, it may be a different story when you grow older. When you reach your 50's and 60's and your body starts to weaken, after years and years of abusing your health and body it will begin to catch up with you.

Health and fitness and performing some kind of physical activity such as aerobic exercise is excellent for keeping the "engine" running strong. However, lots of people find that changing their lifestyle and eating habits go hand in hand with starting some form of health and fitness program.

People frequently exercise with other people or at health clubs to stay motivated. Or, many people enjoy it alone and workout almost "religiously" finding the time to be by themselves or use it as kind of a time to "meditate". Either way, what is important is to "Just Do It". And whenever you're feeling un-motivated or experiencing a hard time getting going and starting a workout just keep in mind that the work you're performing today will pay off in spades as you age.
