Nerd, not so much
Be honest now. What’s the first thing that pops in your mind when you think of people who work in the technical sector? Nerds. Right? But did you even think about the fact that tech jobs are a lot cooler than you might think? It takes a lot of brain and also luck to get one of the following jobs. Jocks and greasers, eat your heart out!
Be an astronaut
The coolest job in technology since 1961. That’s when Russian tech nerd Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space. Okay, so they call it a cosmonaut over there, but still. This is not an easy job to get. What it comes down to is that you need to be fit and, very important, a brilliant scientist or highly experienced pilot. Preferably both.
Gamer professional
Order a pizza and enter your second life as the character you want. Whether it’s a hero or a villain, your thumbs are bound to gain some serious hard skin. Millions of people play gmaes on a professional level, with sponsors all over the place.
Play games for the rest of your life
Just think about it… what could be better than being paid to spend your time playing the latest video games? As a computer games tester, thousands of people do just that in order for companies to put out multi-million pound titles with the minimum of bugs. Awesome… now pass me the chips! It's a job that requires a combination of expert play and an obsessive eye for detail. You’ll get paid to play games before anybody else gets their hands on them.
Safety car, anyone?
Grand Prix racing is one of the most glamorous and high tech sports around. Noisy too, just a minor detail. But how does travelling the world sound to you? Join the GP circus as a Formula One control systems engineer! It’s this function that has the most responsibility when it comes to the safety of the driver. And the best thing is, you’ll meet a lot of fellow tech geeks!
Become James Bond
Seriously, but you can’t tell anyone else. MI5 is known to be advertising for a Chief Scientific Advisor. The only known fact about this application is that you have to be at least 18 years old. But surely it takes a bit more than a physics degree to lead the war against government threats.
Gadgets gadgets everywhere
How about reviewing the coolest, most advanced gadgets out there? Work from home, as a courier brings the latest toys to your door! Though it’s not that easy, finding new ways of reviewing cameras, netbooks, phones or other technological highlights. But then again, who wouldn’t want to be able to play with cool stuff before anyone else can?
Retouch celebrity body parts
That’s right. Because techies are the real stars of many big movies. Those special effects make the movies and you’ll need some serious skill creating them. Being a visual effects artist brings technology and art together.
Pay for work!
So not all of these jobs pay that well, but they’re so cool you’d pay to do them. Be honest! Some require long and difficult studies, others really are like a hobby you enjoy… either way you’d be lucky to have one of these jobs. How does being a tech nerd sound to you now?
