Georges Saint Pierre's next title defense will take place on December 11th, at 10PM EST vs Josh Koscheck, in St Pierre's hometown at the Montreal Bell Centre for UFC 124. This is a highly anticipated rematch between the two fighters. The previous fight, UFC 74, was for the number 1 welter-weight contender spot, this fight is for the UFC welter-weight championship, currently held be St Pierre.
St Pierre dominated Koscheck at their prior scrap on August 25, 2007. Last time, many people predicted Koscheck would be better on the ground because he is a 4-time Division I NCAA All-American and NCAA wrestling champion, but George Saint Pierre totally dominated him on the ground, preventing all of Koscheck's takedown attempts and staying on top for most of the match.
The fighters have been opposing coaches on the 12th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” and the title bout will serve as the end of the season face-off of the coaches that follows the end of the show. All through the show, Koscheck poked and prodded St Pierre with rude comments and trash talk.
“I’m so happy that I get to fight Josh Koscheck in front of my home crowd,” St-Pierre said. “He was very disrespectful during the filming of The Ultimate Fighter and I didn’t say a word. Now on December 11, I get to answer back with my fists. Last time I fought in Montreal, it was so loud the Octagon was shaking. I know the crowd will be even louder for this fight.”
Since their last bout, Koscheck is 6-2 and has earned victories over Anthony Johnson, Dustin Hazelett, Chris Lytle and Paul Daley. His only 2 defeats in that span have come at the hands of Brazilian fighters Paulo Thiago and previous number one contender Thiago Alves, who St Pierre also defeated in UFC 100.
“I’m excited about the fight,” Koscheck said. “It’s a big rematch for me and in life you don't get second chances that often so I plan on taking advantage of this second chance. I am training every aspect of the game and can't wait to go fight in December and bring that belt back to the States. I will put on a show like I always do.”
George St Pierre is currently riding a seven-fight win streak beating UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Jon Fitch, Matt Serra, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy and Koscheck. Koscheck is a 3-1 underdog going in to this fight.
