Showcasing the talent of local thespians, the innocents finally raised its curtains. And the subject of many strange tales is a portrait, which happens to hang on the set of this show. Someone who chooses to be unknown had held on to this portrait for years. As if entranced, this lady stopped her travels, parked her car and instantly bought the picture and up to now she does not know why.
As she waited for the store attendant to hand it to her, she wondered how in the world could she afford it. School was round the corner and they needed her to purchase supplies, clothes and books for them. So she rehearsed in her mind what she was going to tell the saleslady, that even if she found the picture so pretty, she could not take if for she just can't afford it. I have to get that portrait no matter what, the woman suddenly shrieked and this stopped the clerk from returning it back on wall where it previously hung.
A problem presented itself for her as she tried to figure how she would explain to her husband her compulsion at buying the photo, and after paying for it she hurried out of the antique store, still not being able to explain to herself how she got it even as she could not even afford it and neither had a need for it. This masterpiece was in oil and was created between the late 1800's or early 1900's, showcasing a Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound. The Borzoi in the picture was painted in an almost straight on pose, capturing only the head and shoulders of the wolfhound and this something that someone whose eyes are familiar with the Borzoi should be able to point out, apart from the fact that it was a very alluring piece of art. There is no proper proportion when you look closer at the shoulder and chest.
Even as the woman's eyes were extremely familiar with such a breed and knew exactly how it must look like, she still got it despite thinking that she should not. The wife was surprised about how her husband felt so drawn to the painting of the Borzoi the way she was too when she first saw it when she first thought that her husband would get so mad about her overspending instead of spending it for the kids' school needs.
Amateurs and experts have all taken shots of this painting but it never came out the same, ever. It was both creepy and amazing how strange lights would linger on the painting's surface, sometimes making it look like it was in color and then black and white sometimes, then there would also be moments when the dog would appear to be flat then three dimensional all of a sudden but the most bizarre instance would perhaps be a spectral face showing on its right side.
?I certainly do not think that there is something strange about this portrait for we can just blame it on too much imagination and perhaps some kind of light reflections, shared the husband when he and his wife discussed the possibility of an entity accompanying the portrait they bought. A large plate made of ceramic, with a loud crash, fell on the floor but it was not broken into pieces, which was truly a mystery.
After hearing so many tales about the mysterious Borzoi portrait, the director producer of the playhouse sought the couple owning it who gladly loaned it for him, to be a good background feature for his play, the Innocents, which revolved on supernatural subjects. We never truly found out who or what it is that moved into our home the day we got the portrait and perhaps you can help us with this as we lend this to you for your production, the Innocents, the couple told the producer. This being the truth is what they are hoping for.
