The pressure washer business is a lucrative industry. To stay on top of the game, you have to make sure that all your equipment is working properly and that includes the pumps. Pump repair is very essential and it is an easy job for those who know how to do it. Now if you want your equipment to be fully functioning all the time, then proper maintenance is a must. For pressure washers that are of industrial grade, there are two common types of pumps used, one is the Cat pump and the other one is the General pump.

The pump is connected to the engine and its power comes from the two parallel belts. The pump needs water to function properly so turn off the engine if you see that there is no more water in the pump. Another important element you should take note of is the oil in the pump. Change the oil as frequently as once a month to ensure efficient output for the machine.

The valves inside the pump should be replaced often, after 300 to 500 hours of use would be ideal. Just remove the bolt holding the valve and take out the valve itself. Put in the new valve and then bolt it again. Wrench the bolt tightly afterwards.

Once you drain the oil, you will know if you have a problem with either the water or the oil itself. If the oil has bubbles or if it turned white, then it means it overheated due to lack of water or the casing might have cracked.

The belts should be checked as well. Keep it nice and tight. Look out for drips. If there is a drip, use the ever reliable Teflon tape. Not only will this stop the leak, it also prevents rust formation and it is also convenient to separate if you ever need to refit in the future.

A common problem concerning the pump is the low pressure. There are a number of things that can cause this, not only because of the water supply. Low pressure may also be caused by fault pressure gauge and hose leakage. It could also be a number of other reasons such as worn out tip of the gun nozzle, belt slippage, slow engine rpm, clogged inline filter and obstruction in the spray nozzle tip.

Doctors have to hear the beating of the heart and the breathing of the person in order to find out if there is something wrong. Similar to that, you have to listen to the pumps in order to know if it is working as it should be. If the pumps become too noisy, there might be a problem in the air suction line, the valve springs or the bearings.

Pressure washing contractors should have more than the basic knowledge concerning the repair and maintenance of their machines. Just think, this is only the pumps that are being discussed here. If you do not know how to handle pump repairs, better ask the assistance of the professional to avoid further damage.
