Just about everyone at some time in their lives has been on a diet. Some individuals are professional dieters, constantly trying the next big thing and failing miserably. This is because dieting by itself won't change your overall views about food and exercising. Many individuals, especially around the beginning of every year, start to wonder how to lose weight without having to starve yourself in the process.
Diets that require a person to excessively limit their calories are almost always doomed to fail. The main drawback in this kind of dieting is just that, you are on a diet. When you decide to go back to normal eating once more the tendency is for the weight to return. While on the diet significantly limiting calories will cause your metabolic processes to slow down and burn up less calories because you're eating less. Then when you go back to normal eating again the "extra" calories helps to put the weight back.
You don't have to struggle when attempting to lose weight. There's three important things to keep in mind when it comes to losing weight that can help to keep you from feeling deprived from the foods you like to eat.
1. Eating in moderation: You've probably heard the term that everything is okay in moderation. However, many people tend to forget and don't live by this rule. It's either one extreme or the other - all or nothing. They are either eating each meal at a fast food restaurant or they're surviving on carrot sticks. The real key to losing weight and keeping it off is to do everything in moderation. This means that if you want a piece of chocolate cake, go ahead and have one. Just don't eat a piece of chocolate cake every day for the next month.
2. Eat breakfast everyday: A lot of people underestimate breakfast and don't understand that it's the most important meal of the day. Breakfast is the meal that literally "breaks the fast". It's what gets your body ready for your day. It revs your metabolism back up so that it will become more efficient and effective when burning fat during the day.
3. Fill up with nutrient dense, fiber rich foods: One important factor that people tend to neglect or forget when going on a diet is to consume foods that are nutrient dense and rich in fiber. For example, this simply means that you could eat 100 calories of beans or 100 calories of chocolate. While the chocolate might sound like a good idea, it's going to move through your system quickly and cause blood sugar levels spikes which will cause further cravings. Beans on the other hand, will keep you full longer and will not trigger blood sugar spikes.
Going on a diet does not need to be a bad experience. You simply need to take a sensible approach and have reasonable goals and you'll lose weight without having to starve yourself.
