Drawing horses as much as she loved riding them was what a female artist loved when she was a child. Early training combined with the artist's many years of experience has led her to one career which involves painting horses and other subjects of the natural world. A number of dogs, hens, horses, and reindeer can be seen in her pastel and watercolor paintings.
She and her family moved to the present county from Philadelphia when she was 11. Her father worked as a commercial artist and he painted for fun just like her mother and sister. According to her father, what is real important to an artist is drawing. Such details are evident in the structure of the animals she paints.
Since she loves painting animals she also began considering using cats and dogs as subjects. Not only do they have a cat but she and husband have two dogs in their present home too. Aside from this she also paints pets for private commissions.
Including the bright white of daylight and the darker amber hues of evening, light distinctly stands out in her paintings. For her, there is much value placed on having a sense of light in her paintings. Such is a reason for her making use of watercolor. For her, a series of transparent washes going over paper is what she considers watercolor. Through the paint, the white paper becomes vibrant. Using oil paint means creating light in another fashion. Painting everything around it is how light is revealed.
Watercolors force the artist to think in reverse, to paint around the white. Adding the light when artists make use of oil follows the painting in the dark shadows. Taking on the challenge of luminosity in oil paintings is what the artist wants to deal with in her career. According to her, something she loves involves the impressionists and she would like some time spent painting in oil.
Her move to the present location at the countryside from the former town is what inspires her nowadays. She has been exploring the back roads, photographing old farmhouses and landscapes in the foothills. Most of the time, she worries about the old farmhouses that get torn down. The artist finds the need to urgently paint the old houses in an effort to acknowledge and protect them. What she adores is the historic architecture.
When it comes to this artist, she is also passionate about still life paintings. From texture to detail, she suggests these subtly rather than paint realistically or use a photographic style. When it comes to her paintings of pets, these focus a lot on the detail and the animal's facial expressions. She also attended the Maryland institute college of art in Baltimore other than going to a known school of art. For much of her career, she worked as a nurse but she has been painting professionally since the age of 25. Her reputation as a painter was established through the ensuing years considering areas involving portraits, florals, pets, and architectural subjects. For a day per week she still practices nursing.
