If you follow email advertising blurbs, social media marketing, Twitter tweets or any number of other online promises, you know that "anybody with a computer and a paid up electric company bill can make money online". So, with this being said, I guess we can just stop here... right?
Think again. Please, please, please think again! With many years of experience with online marketing, we have yet to make our first million dollars selling health products, exercise products, "enhancement products", etc. But we sure have been good at spending money hand over fist and always giving it another go. The old "sink or swim" strategy. Well, in reality, you can make money online if you have a good plan and follow it carefully. You should consider "niche marketing" as your main objective. Create a website that is targeting a very specific niche market and promote it aggressively. When your potential customers are looking for something online they are surely wanting to find something very specific. If you are targeting pet owners, you would not want to create a generic "pet owner website" rather target something like a specific healthy cat food supplement, etc. When you have found your specific niche market, you then use the various free Google tools like Adwords Keyword Tool to find out exactly how many monthly searches are being done for any very specific product or service. It also helps to look at the local searches and compare those with broader searches to find your specific target market area.
One of the most important precursors to making money online is "targeting your audience". It is critical for you to know who you are trying to sell to and exactly how much they may be willing to spend online. If you don't know what your customers are willing to "spend online" you are very likely going to increase your "online spend". This is not an ideal direction to follow. Another very important part of this subject is covered under the "online trust" category. This can never be over stated. Without having a client base that "trusts in you" you are are not going to meet your goals. We have covered many subjects regarding online trust. Just adding the "Verisign" logo (although a great idea) is not what we are referring to with this trust requirement. Trust is gained when you have a good Google ranking, good quality "back links" and use blogging that receives quality input from your readers. Also, offering product and service guarantees, testimonials (both text and video formats) will help increase and maintain your online trust factor.
Here are some of the most common subjects you should consider when planning the design of your website product.
