Guide for adults

Visit any gaming shops and you're bound to get overwhelmed by the hundreds of games choices available - especially if you're new to gaming. For the adult, the typical video game shop looks like some sort of color paint explosion and sooner or later, all the games start to look the same. This guide is for the adult who's buying a game for a younger person perhaps as a birthday gift, Christmas or as a bribe. Whatever the reason, you're going to appreciate the following tips.

1. There's plenty of information available about video games online, so to reduce frustration offline, fire up your web browser and do a little homework. Visit the website of the gaming shop nearest you and then look for a link to the games section of the system that your youngster plays. Here's a helpful chart to explain what all those strange letters mean.

XBOX 360 = Microsoft's XBOX 360 System
PC = Personal Computer
DS = Nintendo's DS System
Wii = Nintendo's Wii System
EA Sports = Entertainment Arts System
PS3 = Playstation 3 System
PS2 = Playstation 2 System
PSP = Playstation Portable System

The key is to locate the console or game on the shop's website first. The console, it's accessories, and all of the games that work on that console will follow. If not, you may need to use the website's internal search engine.

2. Every game packages will have a rating, make sure to choose the right one for your child/teen. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) gives each game a rating in an effort to inform parents what their children are playing. Here's a handy reference to what the ratings mean:

E = Appropriate for Everyone
T = Appropriate for Teens
M = Appropriate for Mature Adults
E 10+ = Appropriate for Everyone aged 10 and older
C = Appropriate for Early childhood

3. Within your temporary games shopping list, try find a game that's built from the latest movie cinema release. Kids love the new animated movies put out by Disney and Pixar, and they really enjoy re-living precious moments in the movie in a video game. That's why when these movies come out on DVD or blu-ray, their producers put a few games in the "Special Features section" of the CDs.

4. Now if you cannot find a game which has been build from a movie, don't worry, go on Google and type "latest games review" , don't forget to add the name of the console(wii,ps3,xbox360) next to your search.

5. When you look for a game or console for your child, you have to do a lot of research first, You have to know things like the Xbox360 and PS3 have roughly the same graphical power which will give you higher quality games. Consoles like the Wii is more for looking for fun rather than graphics, don't forget that now with a higher budget, a player can have both the fun and great quality graphics by using an Xbox360 with a cool new add on called Kinect, both adults and kids will love this mix of spacial real time play and "old fashion games" that are still using a joy pad.
