There are many reasons why you have to seriously consider taking a short term plastering course. If you are a DIY enthusiast, a short term course on plastering can provide you with the necessary tools in order to become proficient in performing common plastering jobs. On the other hand, if you are interested in a career as a professional plasterer, short term course on plastering is your logical first step in your effort of becoming a proficient and competent plasterer.

Most of the short term training programs on plastering maintain an ideal student to instructor ratio to ensure that each participant are given a guided walk through of the entire course program. The discussions and demonstrations are facilitated by professionals who have the necessary skills and experience in critical aspects of plastering.

Students of short term plastering courses are assigned their individual working bays where they can practice the plastering techniques without any distractions and at their own pace. Participants perform the plastering tasks under the close supervision of the course instructor or facilitator.

The training program begins with a discussion of the various types of plaster materials. The instructor shall focus the discussion on the appropriate surfaces for each of the types of plaster materials. After the discussion, a demonstration on the proper manner by which the surface of a ceiling or wall is prepared for plastering is conducted. Participants will also be shown how to use and effectively control plaster tools, hawks and trowels. After, the demonstration, participants will perform the task in their respective working bays.

After the hands-on activity on surface preparation, the training instructor shall conduct a demonstration of the various patching methods. After the discussion and demonstration, the participants shall again be given the opportunity to practice the patching techniques in their respective bays. Specifically, the participants will have the chance to perform plaster skimming on a block of plasterboard in their working bays. This is one of the most critical phases of the plastering course as it also highlights the importance of "breaking in" of the trowel used for skimming.

The subsequent sessions will require the participants to apply the techniques that they have learned in the previous session on an actual working condition. Here, participants will have the chance to apply skimming techniques with the use of PVA on a section of the wall and ceiling in their respective working bays.

Another aspect of the plastering task that will also be covered during the training program is the proper technique in handling plasterboards. Participants shall be taught of the right way of cutting the plasterboards and fixing the same on the wall in the respective working bays. This program component will also show how the joints are prepared before the plaster is applied.

Short term plastering courses provide the opportunity for individuals to learn the effective ways of performing the task in a logical and expeditious way. With sufficient practice and exposure to actual plastering jobs, you will be able to develop the proficiency and skill in performing even the more complicated and extensive plastering jobs.
