A children’s swing set is something that provides lots of fun and entertainment to any child. However if the swing set is not used properly, it is possible that these innocent swings turn out to be something dangerous to your kids. So follow these guidelines to ensure optimum safety when your kids play on swing sets.

You have to exercise maximum care if you have toddlers playing on the swing set. If your child is under three, it is better to get them a specialized toddler swing or swing set. This is because these children’s swing sets provide optimum support to the toddler while playing on the swing.

The seats of these sets come with straps to ensure your child is securely secured to the swing, and provides support on the back, bottom and sides of its seat. It is better to choose swing sets that are made from comfortable materials and rounded edges, to ensure your child is comfortable in it.

Choose swings your child can handle

If you have a toddler, it is better to buy swings meant for toddlers as they find it difficult to balance themselves on swings that are meant for older children. This is why it is important that you choose a swing that is meant for the particular age of your child, so as to avoid accidents from occurring.

Every time your child uses the children’s swing set, make sure you check that it does not have any sharp edges. If your swing set is outdoors, make sure its seat is not too hot for your child as the sun can really warm swing seats.
The swing seat for toddlers should be at least two feet off the ground, so that they can’t crawl onto the swing in your absence. In case of older children’s swing sets, set it about six feet from any obstacle, and make sure it’s firmly anchored to the ground.

Make sure all S hooks are closed

If you have any other playground equipment, make sure that they are placed strategically, where there is no need for kids to cross in front of the swing to reach it. Make sure that your children’s swing set has no bolts and other protruding metal pieces that may be harmful to your child.

If there are S hooks used to hang swings, make sure they are completely closed. Though you may think light chains are better for hanging swings, they can be dangerous as they easily pinch small hands.

Keep a watch on the swing set when older kids use it to ensure they don’t stand on it, swing too high or jump off a moving swing. Also make sure they don’t let go of swing chains or ropes or swing double on the swing.

Last, but not least, never leave infants along in swings as anything can happen on the swing. Infants are always up to innocent mischief, so never leave them alone with your children’s swing set.
